Druid's Oath: The Raven Spell follows young Faelyn Nightsky, a druid neophyte whose life is turned upside down as she adventures to the sacred grove to become a druid. On her way there, along with her fellow neophytes, she encounters enemies that seek to tighten their grip on the world. Faelyn makes the fateful choice that those enemies need to be stopped and set out on a journey full of danger, mystery, and magic to thwart the darkness that threatens the world.
This book is self-described as being perfect for those who have enjoyed Sarah J. Mass and Holly Black, which is a good comparison. This is an epic fantasy adventure full of unique characters and an enemy posing a real threat to the world. Faelyn must forge alliances and friendships with some unlikely people like a stoic bard and mischievous pixie to achieve her goals. She’ll encounter people and mysteries that she never knew existed while learning that perhaps things aren’t all as they seem.
Druid’s Oath has been a fun, action-packed read. The mystery of what’s going on is unraveled slowly to keep you on the hook. The characters are fun and unique, while still feeling like regular, every-day people. No one feels overblown or weirdly overpowered for the situation. And what’s not to love about a classic, epic fantasy hero’s journey? Faelyn is a fairly sheltered young elf used to her people’s way of life and what her mother has taught her, but she soon learns that there’s more to the world than the biased views and preconceived notions of her people.
