Synopsis
Alfie, Tubby, Ollie, and Raxl have created a band - Dog Band! Alfie is the lead singer and guitar player, Tubby plays bass, Ollie plays the drums, and Raxl is the back-up singer and can play many instruments.
But there is one problem - They don't know what kind of music Dog Band should play!
So they enlist their assortment of animal friends (from dogs to frogs!) to help them figure it out.
My 9 year old read Dog Band to my 4 year old. It was easy to read and follow along with for both children. It really helped to have the annunciation of some of the dog breeds. The kids loved the colors and were surprised and excited to see the characters were based off of real animals.
Dog Band had a cute story line with some added education on music. Each type of music mentioned gave some type of explanation on what it was or a feeling to go with the music. My 9 year old felt like she was giving a music lesson to my younger daughter. It inspired them both to play their own instruments the next day.
The book ended with a questions which was a great conversation starter. We ended up having a discussion on not only what the Dog Band would play but what time of music each of my three kids enjoys. We also had to google different dog breeds the next day which in turn made my children change their minds on the music the chose for the Dog Band.
This is a great read for little ones. It was just long enough for bedtime.
