Cam Creates a Hero touches upon a sensitive topic, one that many kids have or are currently experiencing: abuse. If we lived in a perfect society, no child would go to bed fearing the harm that could and often does await them. We all must do our part to make this is dream a reality, to bring peace and joy to every child.
One day, while Cam was telling his foster siblings about his robot sketch for a school project, a reporter appeared on the T.V. screen, informing the viewers that "An 8-year-old girl was hospitalized after she was severely hurt by her stepmom." Inaya, Loris, and Cam were saddened to hear the news and confused about why someone would do such a terrible thing. Loris said he wished there was a real robot who protected kids in trouble. Cam had already planned to turn his robot sketch into the real deal, but now he was inspired to give the robot an important mission —be a hero and protect all kids! A noble dream!
Building a robot is a tall task; luckily, Cam had two enthusiastic helpers who were thrilled to assist. Inaya, Loris, and Cam worked together to gather building materials. Once the trio constructed the robot, Inaya had a brilliant idea for making it mobile. This is the point where Inaya drops a bit of science knowledge on us. Not much, just a sprinkle so readers learn what DC stands for regarding “DC motor” and where readers might find it.
The morning after Giorgio was built, the kids remarked the robot looked better the night before. That they could overlook, but not the fact it didn't work. How could it protect children if it isn't mobile? During a hospital stay, Cam saw kids who were admitted due to sickness or through harm by horrible people. He questioned if the world is without hope. I'm sure many others wonder the same thing.
Cam's plan A didn't work, so it's time for plan B! (No spoilers, read the book!)
Cam's compassion and determination to make a positive change in the lives of others is inspiring! Follow Cam's example and brainstorm ways your family can help your community. And never give up on your dreams!
My recommended reading age is 6-10 years.
I've been constructing reviews for over a decade and don't plan on stopping anytime soon. Most of the reviews will be featured on my blog (Kam's Place), Pinterest, Instagram, BlueSky, and Goodreads. Don't forget to tip your waitress! :D
