SECRET BACKSTORY (for reviewer):
This story was inspired by the life of a dear friend who truly LIVED. Her life and joyful spirit continue to cheer all - to dive into opportunities, dream BIG, get creative, explore, adventure and make each day count! Her life was cut far too short, leaving behind four children and her hubby - but she lived a life that made every day count!
When she passed, I began writing 'I Can't Believe They're Gone,' planning to dedicate it to her memory. But as I wrote, I felt a clear prompting: "She was too full of life to be linked with a grief book - Write a joy book instead!" Angie Loves to Dance was born...
Footwear comes in all shapes, sizes, colors, textures, and designs. We wear them to serve a function, such as protecting our feet from elements like snow or rain. People wear them as a fashion statement or part of a uniform. Wearing the proper footwear can elevate our mood and wearing improper fit or size can have the opposite effect. For most of us, we have more than one pair of shoes. Maybe you even have a closet full, like Angie, the darling child in this colorful picture book!
Angie Loves to Dance explores various styles and functions of shoes and the happiness Angie feels in each accompanying activity. Angie dances across the screen in a multi-colored outfit with matching tapping shoes. She hikes rugged trails, smiling with every step. She dazzles the viewing audience in her royal attire, high heels in full display. Angie's joy for life is prevalent in every illustrative page. I loved the variety of clothing and footwear. And I adored the bonus poem, "Angie's Secret." It was lovely, heartwarming, and the perfect end to this endearing picture book.
Reading this story with your kid(s) or class is not just about learning about footwear. It's about sparking their imagination and engaging them in a fun, interactive reading experience. Encourage young people to listen and share their footwear and its function or purpose. Ask if the foot covering invokes a feeling, like Angie's apparent joy in every picture and activity. Before a page is read or viewed, adults can ask the young listener(s) what they believe appropriate attire is for Angie's upcoming activity and see if it matches what is described on the page. For example, ask what they would wear to go hiking before revealing Angie's clothing choices.
Amazon's suggested reading age is 4-8 years. A few words might need defining, but for the most part, the text should be easy for them to understand.
