Life is about making mistakes and learning from them. Even though everyone makes multiple mistakes in their lifetime, that doesn't affect how one can play with your emotions. Frustration. Anger. Sadness. Regret. Shame. Embarrassment. All Pencils Have Erasers (Because EVERYONE Makes Mistakes! reminds children that mistakes do happen, but that's okay. Mistakes can be fixed.

First, in this charming story, the sweet rabbit struggles with their math lesson, like many students. Their mind can't compute how to solve the addition problems. They look too hard, causing an icky stomach and upset feelings. Mother rabbit reminded her bunny that it's okay to make mistakes. She believed in her child and encouraged her to believe in herself, too. Calm voice. Level head. Reassuring word. Mother rabbit was an excellent example of how all parents should react when their child is overwhelmed by any school subject.

When the young rabbit was stressing over a camping trip, their parent didn't miss a beat providing words of encouragement. On math test day, when tears start to flow, the young bunny reflects on how hard they've practiced for this day. They gather their courage, take the test, and take pride in their accomplishment.

Mistakes can create havoc with our emotions, but they are vital to our growth and improvement. Mistakes teach us to problem-solve, reexamine an issue, and think creatively about how to find a solution. They teach us what does and doesn't work. Mistakes remind us that we are continuously learning and growing. With each error we solve, our confidence soars, and tears are replaced with happy smiles.

I recommend sharing this All Pencils Have Erasers (Because EVERYONE Makes Mistakes! with your child three years and older. Discuss how making mistakes is a part of life. Encourage them to stand up to challenges, not run away from them, which I thought was happening at one point in the story when the student ran out of the door doing a math test. And always cheer their accomplishments, big or small!
