A fantastic thriller that, if I hadn’t already seen the film, would have kept me guessing throughout
I had watched the film before I read the book, but I absolutely loved the film and thought it was an interesting concept. The book did not disappoint at all. It still kept me guessing and I could only imagine some of the scenes would have been better added in to the film.
It was interesting that the blog posts were included (although I liked in the film that they were vlogs but it probably worked better that they were just posts in the book) and then it was written from Stephanie’s, Emily’s and Sean’s points of view. It was nice to flip between the different characters and to find out how the different characters felt and what they thought was happening and whether it matched up with the other characters thoughts and feelings.
Although I sort of knew what was going to happen due to the film being very similar, some of it was still a bit of a surprise and I think the ending was much better than the film which was quite violent. I think that the book ending would have also made a better ending to the film, but I know that films, particularly thrillers, like to go for the violent; shock value.
Very rarely do I think that the book and the film are just as good as each other, but this is one of those times. A book I would recommend to fans of thrillers and mysteries! While they both have the same plot line, they have differences which work well with the media that they are in. As stated further up in this review, the blog posts are great in the context of the book, but wouldn’t work on screen, where it makes a lot more sense to make them into vlog posts. Both are just as fantastic as each other in my opinion!
I’m a bookworm who has started reviewing the things that I have read. I have only been reviewing properly for just over a year so I’m still getting the hang of writing longer reviews but I am enjoying being able to big up the books that I’ve loved! I will read any genre if the book’s interesting!
