Must read 🏆

An interesting book based on mythology but changing beasts into something less scary

So many people have told me that they love this serious that I was a bit dubious. But I have absolutely loved reading about Diana and Matthew and the start of their journey together.

I have previously watched the first two series of the TV adaptation, and I was pleasantly surprised by just how similar they were (it has been a while since I’ve watched the first series so my memory could be wrong) and that meant that I remembered a lot of the scenes described in the book.

It was great to read a book about witches and vampires that didn’t stick with the familiar tales that we all know, like vampires having pointy fangs and not being able to be out in the daylight along with witches describing that there’s a difference between spells and magic. It was interesting to see a new take on the typical folklores and I think that could be what drew me in once I’d got into reading the book. Also there being a council that rule over the three different magical races with rules that mean attention isn’t drawn to them was an interesting concept. It was even more interesting that they were so concerned with an interspecies relationship, and we didn’t find out why, just that it was forbidden. This makes me hope that we’ll find out more about the rules and if there is reasoning behind them in the next two books.

This was a book that I found hard to put down and when I did was thinking back about what I just read, and waiting for the next time I was able to pick it back up. Meaning that I can’t wait to read the next two instalments in this series, I can’t wait to find out the next part of Diana and Matthew’s story and what they achieve.

I’m a bookworm who has started reviewing the things that I have read. I have only been reviewing properly for just over a year so I’m still getting the hang of writing longer reviews but I am enjoying being able to big up the books that I’ve loved! I will read any genre if the book’s interesting!
