Yoko Mia Hirano

Yoko Mia Hirano – Editor

An experienced editor and writer of preprimary and primary English Language Learning materials for the international and domestic markets.

Overview

A seasoned editor and writer in educational publishing, I am available for freelance editing and writing opportunities. I have a strong visual sense often working with thumbnail sketches and a strong background in preprimary and primary content for English Language Learners in the international and domestic markets. Fortunately, I have worked with established authors on best-selling programs, conducted market research globally, and collaborated in teams with marketing and design so I have a keen sense of conceptual development of projects as well as an understanding of the nitty gritty of content writing and editing. My writing credits include Learn English with Dora the Explorer Student Book 2 and Activity Book 2, Reading with Writing level 3 (both Oxford University Press)

A flexible and creative problem-solver, I believe in direct and excellent communication to achieve the most successful work outcomes. It helps to know what is going on and where we are at each stage and it is nice to work when we can communicate comfortably and work out any misunderstandings easily. I tend to ask a lot of questions because I try to deeply understand the purposes and content of the material, but I also try to be respectful of people's time and pull back if I sense I'm being too demanding. I don't want to add to anyone's stress! My intent is to do my best work, but also work collaboratively and with consideration and respect for my collaborators. I'm also aware that different projects have different levels of intensity of involvement and carefulness and adjust according to schedules, needs, and goals. In short, I'm a very thoughtful and sincere editor and writer who is curious, respectful, creative and likes to have fun.
