I provide efficient and thorough development editing, copyediting, and proofreading services of fiction and nonfiction manuscripts. I also help authors revise their books or navigate the self-publishing process. I enjoy coaching new authors and collaborating with seasoned authors. My experience in editing more than 70 books (and counting) in the For Dummies series allows me to help authors shape their manuscripts into well-organized, readable books. I have also helped many independent authors realize their publishing goals.
I’m a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association and the Christian PEN. I have been an editor for more than 20 years.
During my eight years with the For Dummies imprint, I edited more than 50 Dummies books and worked on dozens of special projects with short timelines. I performed proofreading, copyediting, line editing, and developmental editing, ensuring that manuscripts maintained consistency with the brand.
I coached authors on the completeness of the table of contents and the order of chapters for their books. When the writing phase began, I ensured that each chapter was well organized and covered the appropriate information to meet readers' needs. After the manuscript was completed, I managed the production process, which included submitting graphic elements (photos, illustrations, graphs), reviewing final layouts, and turning in articles for the Dummies website.
I work on everything from the ubiquitous For Dummies books to children’s books written by independent authors. I can evaluate a table of contents for content and organization; edit chapters for consistency and flow; and suggest better ways to word clunky sentences. Versed in the Chicago Manual of Style, Associated Press style, and countless house styles, I can spot a misplaced modifier at 20 paces, proofread text for pesky typos and grammatical errors, and correct comma errors with one eye tied behind my back.
