Overview

Travis Herberger was born and raised in Longview, Texas. For him, watercolor is the perfect medium. It’s elusive, unpredictable and has a mind of its own. Travis Herberger’s watercolors are a reflection of his surroundings. Herberger is captivated by the Texas Gulf Coast. He also loves including figures in his paintings because the people are those who that make the place. Travis Herberger choose busy urban settings where he can use lots of colors and have people bustling about. Although he often moves things around for composition’s sake, he rarely eliminates elements to make a “pretty” picture. As much as he loves painting, he spends a lot of time drawing. To him, they go hand in hand. Travis Herberger sketch on location for his paintings as well as works from photographs. For the past 5 years, he has also been part of a local sketch group that gets together weekly to draw a live model. Travel has been an important influence in Travis Herberger’s paintings. He has spent quite a bit of time in the Caribbean as a child and the travel bug has taken him to Europe, South and Central America as well as Africa. Traveling has opened his eyes to so many colorful. Over the last few years, Travis Herberger had some wonderful opportunities to have his watercolors featured on fine art show posters, marketing materials, magazine covers and apparel.

Ideas for Watercolor Projects

Watercolor painting is not just for beginners. Talented watercolor painter Travis Herberger shares that this unique art form has endless possibilities, and you can use it to express your ideas in many different ways. For example, you could paint a scene from one of your favorite novels or create a fantasy landscape. You could also paint a still life with flowers or fruit, or even draw an abstract piece of art. These are just some examples of what you can create with this versatile medium.

Introduction to Fruit Watercolor Painting

According to Travis Herberger, one popular way to paint with watercolor is to use fruit. You can make a simple, but beautiful painting by using watercolor paints and fruits. The skin of the fruit provides a gorgeous background that can be used as a subtle starting point for the main body of your painting.

You can also learn how to create different textures within your painting by incorporating textured fruits into your piece. For instance, you could start with a green apple and put it in the center, then paint around it with watercolors. You can also break up some of the colors in the apple by adding some red, blue, or yellow shades.
The best part about this process is that you don't need a large canvas! All you need is one apple (or any fruit), watercolor paints and brushes!

Introduction to Flower Watercolor Painting

Watercolor flowers are a popular subject for artists of all skill levels. Travis Herberger indicates that flowers can be painted with a variety of techniques, like pointillism and stippling. Additionally, there is the possibility to use washes, glazes, and textures. The different techniques have different effects on your final artwork; however, they can also have the same effect depending on what you are painting.

Introduction to Stone Watercolor Painting

Travis Herberger shares that stone watercolor painting is a new technique that uses the process of etching on stone to create a beautifully finished piece. It was created by artist, Kevin DeYoung. This technique is much different than traditional watercolor techniques, which are created with paint on paper.

First, you will need to obtain some kind of stone that can be ground down into a porous surface. You will then begin to etch your design into the stone. Once you have completed your design on the stone, you will transfer it onto another surface, like paper or canvas.

Your final product will be a detailed and beautiful watercolor painting!

The Different Techniques of Watercolor Painting

Before you get started with watercolors, Travis Herberger indicates that you should know the different techniques of painting it. These techniques include wet-on-wet, dry-on-dry, and blending. Wet-on-wet is when a color is first put down in wet paint and then another color is put down over it. Dry-on-dry, on the other hand, is when the colors are placed down one by one in dry paint. And finally blending is where two colors are smeared together to create a new color.

Materials for Watercolor Painting

Travis Herberger shares that one of the most important things you need to be aware of is that watercolors are fragile, and they have a shelf life. This means that you should use them within a few years so that they can be properly cared for. When you're out shopping for your supplies, keep in mind the type of paint mediums you will need. Watercolor paints are made up of ground pigments mixed with distilled or tap water, but there are also other options like acrylic and oil paints. If you decide to go with these more traditional options, make sure that they are compatible with your chosen medium. It's always best to purchase your supplies from a local art supply store so that you can ask questions about what types of paint mediums might work well for you.
