Empathy, I believe, is the key to successful editing and coaching. Sometimes it means channeling the writer’s inner voice – the one that he or she may have trouble sustaining.
I won’t promise to work with everyone – we’ll need to establish common ground about goals and practices – but I’ll gladly read and respond to an up-to-1,000-word sample of your work as an opening step.
I've been shortlisted for the 2016 Penny Dreadful Novella Prize and for the 2017 Percy French Poetry Prize. In the Portfolio section below, I edited and designed Trilogy, the autobiography of Anthony O'Malley Daly. I contributed short pieces to Gleanings and to The Quiet Quarter Anthology. I concentrate on creative writing, and on coaching others who are developing their writing skills. My favourite author is Raymond Chandler, but others I read and admire include Barbara Kingsolver, John Updike, William Styron, Annie Dillard and Jonathan Raban.

In my business career, I wrote advertising, marketing and public-relations material, plus user-friendly technical manuals. I also edited more business correspondence than I care to remember; MBA's may be able to attract venture capital, but they can't spell.
