I'm a developmental editor for nonfiction books, especially cookbooks and lifestyle-related projects. That means I can help you organize your book, make your arguments logically, ensure your main points are clear, cut extraneous parts, and add missing parts. I'll also check each sentence to make sure it's clear and correct while still maintaining your voice. This is the big picture edit during which we focus on making your book the best it can be.
If you've written a cookbook, your developmental edit also means a recipe edit. I'm handy with a food dictionary, and I can help you edit your recipes so they're as beneficial as possible to home cooks. Are all of your ingredients accounted for in the ingredients list? Is your instructional text clear and concise? Did you mean whole cloves or ground cloves? Is there a doneness test? What is the yield? (Spoiler alert: you've almost certainly forgotten to mention the yield at least once!)
Also, as a former acquisitions editor for book publishers, I've written and read hundreds of nonfiction proposals. If you need help with yours, I'm available to consult.
I provide developmental editing, copyediting, proofreading, and project management services to publishers, packagers, and individuals who want their text to shine. I specialize in hands-on nonfiction, including cookbooks, craft books, and how-to.
