I am a literary agent with over a decade of experience in traditional publishing. I edit contemporary and historical romance, women's fiction, cozy mysteries, domestic suspense, southern and African-American fiction. I edit all of my clients work before pitching to publishers and have sold fiction to Harlequin, Berkley, Sourcebooks, Kensington, Crooked Lane and more.
I began my agency because I love to read, love working with authors and I feel I have a talent for strengthening stories.
My portfolio includes manuscripts in which I performed deep developmental edits before selling to publishers.
Here's a little more about the editorial services I offer:
QUERY REVIEW - If you're ready to begin querying but need a second pair of eyes to review your query, I can provide that for you. Turnaround time is usually 24-48 hours with an in-depth analysis of whether your query is ready for submission plus line-editing of your query.
I can also review your first 15 or 50 pages and give guidance on how to strengthen that partial for the best possible outcome.
If you'd like more than just your query reviewed, ask me to quote for the first 15 or 50 pages as well.
The query review comes with one phone call or emailed follow-up questions to discuss.
EDITORIAL ASSESSMENT - How do you know when you're ready to query an agent? What if you need to keep writing and revising? Without an objective assessment of your work it can be anyone's guess, right? I can help with that - I can read your work and give you my honest professional experience on whether you're ready to find an agent or if you should work more on your craft. If you can take the honesty, I'll be more than happy to give my candid thoughts.
This service will come with a detailed letter surmising my thoughts on your work and where you are in your journey to become a professional writer plus recommendations on what your next steps should be.
If you would like one round of light developmental edits with this service, just ask. Along with the letter, I can provide one round (only) of light developmental edits in-line.
Also, under the service of editorial assessment, I am happy to schedule a one-hour call with you to discuss your writing, publishing, next steps, etc. in case you don't have a particular work for me to look at but have questions you'd like to ask of someone in the publishing industry. Just request a quote for an editorial assessment phone call.
The editorial assessment comes with one phone call or emailed follow-up questions to discuss.
DEVELOPMENTAL EDITING - My favorite! I love to dig into a manuscript and really work with the author to make that baby shine. Let's be real - it can be a lot of hard work and several rounds of revisions but if you're serious about being a professional writer or published author writing, revision and editing is required.
When I give a quote for developmental editing, I will typical provide for three rounds of edits with a set number of hours based on your word count. If I find that I use more or less hours depending on the complexity of your edits, I may increase or decrease your quote accordingly.
This service will include detailed in-line comments throughout your manuscript plus a letter detailing my thoughts about your work.
I will try not to take on work that requires more than 2-3 rounds of edits but in the case that you need a 4th round or you request a final polishing I will update the quote to reflect the additional work.
The developmental edit comes with unlimited emailed follow-up questions plus up to two phone calls per revision round to discuss.
If I feel strongly enough about your work, I may provide a list of agents that I think may like to see your submission.
Let's do this! How can we work together to make your novel the best it can be?
