Stephanie Thompson – Editor

Writer, editor, teacher. Copyeditor for publications and manuscripts. Ready to shape your writing to be the best it can be.

"Give me a Sharpie big enough, and I'll proof the world." That's my unofficial motto. Ask anyone who knows me. I'm one of those people. I can't help myself. I love the English language. I love it so much I want to see everyone get it right.

I help your document make sense and your prose sing. I'm especially interested in helping self-publishing authors prepare manuscripts for publication. Without a publisher, it's even more important to hire an experienced, professional copyeditor who can free your work from error, ensure continuity, take advantage of all the English language has to offer, and present as polished a text as possible to your readers.

I recently added sensitivity reading to my services. I'll carefully read your copy and flag any language or construction that could be considered offensive, sensitive, or triggering to your readers. This includes language potentially offensive to women, BIPOC, LGBTQ+, disabled persons, and other traditionally marginalized groups. Recognizing this language may exist in your copy, however unintentionally, gives you the power to consider changes before it is published.

What you'll get from me is honest assessment, detailed editing, and fast turnaround. Let's make something great together.

“I work with professionals from all corners of the publishing process and when I find someone like Stephanie Thompson, who produces smart, quality work that is always delivered on time, well, I get pretty excited. She makes me look good! Your book is your baby—if you plan to release it into the world with the best possible chance for success, you’ll need a quality editor. Stephanie is worth every penny!”
- Jeniffer Thompson, Co-Founder, San Diego Writers Festival, and Principal at Monkey C Media

“Stephanie did a super job editing my three books. She is bright and a pleasure to work with. Her command of the English language is hard to match. She's a real pro, works quickly, and never complained about changing deadlines. She has an amazing eye that catches the slightest details. Her work is first-rate.”
– Claude Salhani, author, Black September to Desert Storm, While the Arab World Slept, Inauguration Day

"Stephanie was super responsive, timely, and professional. Highly recommended!"

Stephanie’se edits and feedback were invaluable. She helped me make sense of a story that initially felt like written vomit. Would definitely work with her again. Definitely recommend
