Amanda Shih

Amanda Shih – Editor

Editor of award-winning and New York Times bestselling nonfiction for both children (8 and up) and adults.

Overview

I am an editor of award-winning and New York Times-bestselling nonfiction, a freelance proofreader, editorial consultant, speaker, and full-time marketing writer with nearly a decade of major trade publishing expertise.

I edited middle grade and young adult nonfiction at Scholastic, where I focused on narrative nonfiction (memoir, history, action-adventure/survival thriller) and general nonfiction (reluctant reader, history, spooky/mystery). Before that, I created adult nonfiction at TarcherPerigee, an imprint of Penguin Random House, where I edited self-improvement, business, personal finance, creativity and gift, and humor books with a focus on new millennial voices.

I love working with writers who are subject experts and specialize in distilling broad expertise into a compact, page-turning manuscript for any audience. I am always drawn to books that fall at the intersections of highly personal and emotionally universal or educational and entertaining. As an editor, I have done everything from laying out a choose-your-own-adventure book by hand to bringing 20 distinct characters into one cohesive nonfiction narrative and plenty more in between.
