After working multiple sides of the literary landscape - including literary agencies, sales & marketing, and bookselling - I possess a diverse range of experiences in the publishing industry and an eye for detail; I don't believe in giving less than 110% of my time and effort. I've had over six years experience in being the first eye on multiple agencies' slush piles, where I've discovered many new clients, so I'm particularly well-versed in what a query letter (and opening pages) need to stand out in a crowded inbox. I've also edited the work of bestselling authors; from structural edits to fact-checking, I go above and beyond, tailoring each edit to the style of the author. I've even researched autopsies to ensure the crime in an author's mystery novel made sense! My work on all sides of the publishing industry has included experience with many different genres, from YA and MG to thrillers, and ensure that my edits also include insight specific to the book's category.
Reading-wise, I am particularly passionate about children's literature (YA & MG), romance, and science-fiction/fantasy. In addition to publishing, my interests include pop culture (especially genre shows!), cooking, fashion, and social media. My interest in the intersection between pop culture and books inspired my undergraduate thesis in Anthropology, where I analyzed the interactions between authors, fans, and critics via social media. From my thesis, I developed working theories & strategies on the opportunities for publishing in the digital sphere, which I've applied in my different positions in the industry.
