Rebecca Seal – Editor

Freelance food and drink writer and editor, author of 4 cookbooks (+1 more on the way). Always ready to eat. Loves making things. London.

Overview

I'm a freelance food and drink writer, editor and presenter, and author of four cookbooks, with 14 years experience in newspapers, magazines and book publishing. I enjoy working with everyone from individuals to brands, niche publications to international publishing houses; I create a tailor-made solution for every project.

My own work is often syndicated around the world and my books are published in America and Australia as well as in Europe and in translation. As well as books under my own name, I also love to work with individuals or companies to create their own books or proposals; I am adept at adopting tone of voice or helping to develop editorial identity. I create bespoke recipe content and I have a shoot space at my home which clients can use.

Work experience

Self-employed

Apr, 2010 — Present

I am a busy freelance writer and editor, specialising in food, drink and travel, working for clients including newspapers like the Sunday Times, Guardian, Financial Times and Evening Standard as well as magazines like Olive. I also produce food and drink related content for brands such as Soho House and Waitrose. Some of my work involves broadcasting - I'm a regular contributor to a magazine programme called Sunday Brunch on Channel 4; I appear on BBC radio's Kitchen Cafe, too. I have written three cookbooks published by Hardie Grant, Lisbon, Istanbul and Postcards from Greece, and three co-authored cookbooks with the LEON chain of restaurants in the UK, with a fourth on the way.

The Observer

Mar, 2004 — Mar, 2010 (about 6 years)

I was assistant editor of Observer Food Monthly magazine and a contributing editor on Observer Woman magazine, writing, commissioning, running desk budgets and annual events like the Observer Food Awards, arranging and art directing photography, and editing the Observer Food Monthly cookbook. I also contributed to other sections, including News and Review.
