I'm a co-founder/Publisher of the critically-acclaimed LGBTQ fiction press Riptide Publishing, and an industry veteran of almost twenty years. My areas of expertise are multiple subgenres of romance, thrillers/suspense, fantasy, paranormal/UF, and queer fiction. I've edited authors such as New York Times bestseller Stephanie Tyler (SE Jakes), queer romance superstar Abigail Roux, critical darlings such as Lisa Henry and Alexis Hall, and fan favorites such as Anne Tenino and LA Witt.
I'm also a published author, which allows me to bring a perspective to my work that many editors don't have: how it feels to be on the other side of the edit.
As a co-founder of Riptide, I've worn a great many hats, primarily editorial and management. Six years and several employees' worth of growth later, I'm able to spend less time babying the press and can now dedicate a few days each month to nurturing authors and projects that might never come across my desk at Riptide. As an editor, I've focused primarily on romantic comedy, contemporary romance, romantic suspense, thrillers, high and epic fantasy, paranormal and urban fantasy, and soft sci-fi. I also have particular interest and experience in fandom, first responder titles (I volunteered as an EMT for almost a decade), and titles set in the wilderness. Like most of my staff, I'm a queer woman; I can edit bi, ace, kinky, and/or Jewish characters with particular expertise, as those are my own lived experiences.
I'm a passionate advocate for the queer community, and believe strongly in the power of fiction to change the world for the better. Aside from my work at Riptide, which publishes only fiction with queer protagonists, I've been interviewed about queer fiction and/or romance by a number of trade magazines and NPR, and participated as a panelist or speaker at a number of industry events (RT, RWA, GRL, etc.). I've also taught numerous workshops at such events, primarily on craft/prose and the art of the query letter.
Founder of the critically acclaimed LGBTQ fiction press Riptide Publishing, featuring three imprints (Riptide: romance across all subgenres; Triton: YA; and Anglerfish Press: non-romance genre fiction and literary fiction with darker themes). We have published multiple RITA-nominated titles, including both the first-ever male/male and the first-ever female/female titles to be RITA finalists in the 30+ year history of the award. We have also racked up a significant number of Foreword Indiefab Award nominations and wins, Rainbow Award nominations and wins, Lambda Award nominations, Bisexual Book Award nominations and wins, and starred reviews across multiple trade publications. We publish queer fiction stars such as Abigail Roux and Santino Hassell, have signed New York Times bestsellers such as Larissa Ione and Stephanie Tyler, and have launched careers of critical darlings such as Alexis Hall and JA Rock.
Freelance editorial work for a number of individuals and presses, on fiction and nonfiction projects, including ghostwriting, developmental editing, line editing, copyediting, and query evaluation. Major publishing clients include Pearson/National Academy Foundation, Palgrave Macmillan, and Avalon Publishing.
I've published a number of novels throughout my career, including high fantasy with romantic elements, cyberpunk, contemporary romance, and BDSM-focused erotic romance. While this by no means qualifies me to edit by itself, it does help me to bring a unique perspective to the editing process, as I know exactly what it's like to put your work into someone else's hands and then digest and integrate their feedback. I have also experienced the query process from both sides of the table: as an author seeking (and finding) publication, and as an editor at multiple houses reading slush.
