My interests have always been in books, both in cover design and illustration, and this is the main focus of my work. I have always loved reading from an early age, and I really enjoy the challenge of figuring out how best to represent a story through imagery.

Having always been a fan of fantasy and adventure novels such as Harry Potter and Watership Down, I find these types of genres particularly enjoyable to design for as there are so many elements to the story, and therefore many design possibilities. I don't feel I have a particular style when it comes to book covers, as I believe it is better to adapt my method of working to fit each individual book rather than using the same approach each time. This way the focus of the design is the book itself, rather than a preconceived style which may not represent the book in the best way. However, I do tend to work with a combination of digital and traditional media, as I find this allows for a wide range of possibilities whilst retaining a handmade quality.

Work experience

Studio Designer

Abacus Cards
December, 2016 – Present (almost 2 years)

I am currently working as a Studio Designer for a greeting card publisher. This involves designing from initial concepts through to final print-ready designs, as well as working on designs created by freelance illustrators and photographers. Day-to-day tasks include image manipulation, colour correcting, reformatting, type design and creating finishing layers (e.g. foil, emboss, flitter etc).

Photo Editor

Ede & Ravenscroft
June, 2015 – December, 2016 (over 1 year)

I worked as a Photo Editor for a photography company, editing graduation photos. This typically involved colour correcting, cropping and basic image editing (e.g. removing dust spots, fixing backdrops, removing dirty marks from clothing and straightening images). Often more extensive editing was required though, such as repainting eyes due to glasses flare, or recreating the backdrop for large families.
