Overview

I am the Editor and Director of Dead Ink Books, an independent literary publisher. My skills cover the entire publishing process from editorial and production to marketing. My career has focussed on developing literary fiction from new and emerging authors. I'm particularly interested in fiction that dares to look at the world in a new way or tells a story with an original voice.

I am experienced in working with authors early on in their careers and developing their writing into confident and professional work.

Work experience

The Society of Young Publishers (North and Midlands)

Producing regular publishing and writing events on behalf of the Society of Young Publishers and promoting those events within the region. Advising and assisting young publishers in their careers.

Dead Ink Books

Sep, 2011 — Present

I currently run literary fiction publisher, Dead Ink Books. In my role I commission titles and work closely with authors to develop their careers and their work. The primary focus of the press is exciting literary talent that defies straightforward categorisation. In particular we work with new and emerging authors who are beginning to find their voice and establish themselves in the industry.

As an Editor, I supportively work with authors on narrative, structure, character, tone and style to produce well written books that they are proud of. Work that transcends, merges or abandons genre and is unafraid to be bold and experimental is what I have focussed on developing and where my current strengths lie as an Editor.

The Night Light

Sep, 2009 — Jun, 2011 (over 1 year)

Established the online literary journal, The Night Light, and acted as Editor commissioning titles from new and emerging authors and preparing them for publication.

Working with Nathan was great. It became a much longer process than expected, in part to things going on in both of our schedules. The overall results of the editing process were great, and I feel that I have developed as an author due to the great feedback throughout the process.

Working with Nathan was a blast. It barely took any time at all to realise how talented he is, but beyond that, how passionate he is. He should be every new author's dream to work with. He is punctual and very willing to go beyond what most editors can claim, even after we finished our collaboration he is still available to me for help! His prices might be a little on the steep end but he p...
