Overview

I worked as an acquisitions editor for an established publisher with ties to the educational market for over two decades and have experience in all levels of editing from developmental to copyediting to proofreading. My experience in the youth market (my sweet spot) includes picture books, first chapter books, chapter books, middle grade books, and YA books. My portfolio also includes Christian living titles, devotionals, and Bible studies for teens and adults. In addition to my primary work, I have worked as a freelancer editor for HarperCollins and several independent publishers. My extensive experience means I can give you the help you need to make your manuscript shine. (I'm not old, mind you, just experienced.)

I will focus on the needs specific to copyediting or proofreading. I will tidy up grammatical concerns and fix your punctuation. I will help you identify rough spots like flabby prose, lack of clarity, or stilted dialogue. I stay current with the Chicago Manual of Style, and I will help you hone your style to fit what readers today expect. I am a stickler for maintaining your author's voice. If my editing makes your text sound like I wrote it, I have failed you, but I don't plan on failing. I am known for doing careful and respectful work that is delivered on time. Author Testimonials

Nancy Lohr has edited two of my novels. I consider her work to be detailed, thorough, and professional in every way. Thanks to her editing, along with various construction suggestions along the way, both books turned out better than they would have been without her input. I appreciate her years of experience but also her sense of humor, personality, and genuine care for the work. I highly recommend her!

--Rick Barry, author of The Methuselah Project and other novels

Working with Nancy was an absolute pleasure. She is smart, attentive, and caring. She elevated my work to a new level while being careful not to change my voice or style. Whenever I approached a new comment or change suggested by Nancy, I knew it was going to be right on. She always made sure that I agreed with her decisions and understood her meaning. She is an amazing, talented editor. Simply put: Nancy Lohr is the best.

--Joyce Magnin, author of Pippa’s Jumping Shoes and other books

As a first-time author, I required education in the writing and publishing process. Nancy Lohr provided steady, honest guidance from start to finish. She encouraged my personal style while helping me raise the quality to publishing standards. Longevity in the industry and broad associations in the publishing world enhance the expertise she offers. Editor-to-author communication is timely and clear. I hope to have the opportunity to work with her again.

I was privileged to work with Nancy Lohr on my book He Is Able. From the first moment, I had the sense that I and my manuscript were in good hands. I never doubted that Nancy believed in the project and the message I sought to communicate. Every step she took and every suggestion she made enhanced that message and strengthened my writing. I am a better author, and my manuscript became a better book because of her keen editor’s eye, sound judgment, and skillful work. The editing process can be painful for an author, but working with Nancy was a joy. I commend her and her work to you with utmost confidence you will have a similar experience.

Nancy was helpful and kind. Her professional insight was not what I wanted to hear, but exactly what I needed to hear. She guided me to the path I needed to be on to make sure my book reaches its full potential. She was on time and even patient with me as I suddenly had big life changes during our time working together. I'm grateful for the experience.
