Overview

I've been working in the publishing industry for over three years, primarily among indie presses such as the late Elephantine Publishing (romance, fantasy, and YA literature) and the esteemed David R. Godine, Publisher (non-fiction/biography, literary fiction, and poetry) here in Boston. Over these past years, I've learned the nuances of the publishing process, helping develop and produce various titles for e-book and print production, while also honing over eight years of experience in teaching authors how to improve their craft.

I hold a Masters degree in Publishing & Writing from Emerson College (focus on book editing), and Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Dickinson College. During my junior year, I studied abroad at Oxford University, where I studied Victorian and Modernist literature—two eras of writing that remain close to my heart.

Currently, I work as a Managing Editor at John Wiley & Sons. While I manage an average of twenty-three academic journals at a time (and with such comes many needs from both editors and authors alike), I often turn to freelance editing in order to remain close to what I love: helping authors tap into the story just hiding behind their mind's eye.

"Precise, detail oriented, and always thinking ten steps ahead of what I was planning. What more could be said about Michelle? To imagine writing without her critique feels impossible. She makes the most daunting tasks simple to understand and reachable. Michelle has worked with me on a number of projects, each project growing exceptionally stronger once she's worked her magic on it. There's no one I would rather work with that sees my vision even before I do." — Brian Sweeney, author of the short story "A Spirit's Spirit" (Short Edition) and two forthcoming SciFi novels

The Dog Who Wouldn't Be

Farley Mowat

First published in 1957, this is one of those classic dog books that everyone who ever read it remembers. Much as they remember the great Canadian novelist Farley Mowat - for his wry humor, his marvelous use of language (his father was a librarian), his passion for animals in all forms and the outdoors in all its glory, and his seemingly endless series of misadventures.
