I am a Freelance Illustrator/Author primarily for children picture books, and juvenile fiction residing in the sunny state of Queensland, Australia. I have two wonderfully imaginative and creative children who inspired me to publish my first book titled 'Monsters in My Garden' and I am currently illustrating my second book titled 'Dun Dun did it'.
I have over 15 years graphic art and illustration experience ranging from animation through to patent drawing for inventions and CAD engineering for manufacture. I have owned an operated a successful signage and T shirt printing business, but realized my true joy came from illustrating characters for kids.
Current projects are 3 more Monster books to complete the series and a 4 book Australiana Series around a red tailed black cockatoo lost in a cyclone.
How can I help realize your book?
I have a very distinctive toonish style of illustration that engenders fun, charisma and energy. I can add action and weight to your story through well developed character design with a variety of renders from comic book style (defined outlines - full color saturation) through to natural media (such as water color or pastels).
I use various methods to develop the illustrations from roughing out and story-boarding traditionally (pencil and paper) then switch to digital to clean up, layout, ink and render.
Additionally I am well versed in the Print on Demand (self publishing) channels and the processes required to get a book printed, published and distributed (Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Book depository, Fishpond etc), including ISBN, barcodes, book sizes, bleed margins, color conversion of artwork, the dreaded 240% limit for CMYK and in Australia the Legal Deposit requirements.
I have a reasonably fast turnaround - on average from concept to publication a 32 page book takes about 3 months.
I am currently open to new opportunities
Children book illustration and publication
My main passion is creating unique, engaging illustrations for children's picture books and juvenile fiction.
Bringing thoughts, dreams and distant concepts into reality through beautiful artistic expression.
Freelance illustration, Character design, layout, animation, music and post production.
A 32 page picture book about the various monsters that visit a girls garden, who they are, how much fun they have and how they help kids learn to deal with fears and understand the world. There is a surprise twist at the end of the story.
Anyone who has a child goes through the many explanations of how they didn't do whatever they are getting in trouble for. See how a young boy tries to convince his parents that it wasn't him but in fact his best friend Dun Dun (an imaginary Dinosaur)
