I am an editor with more than twenty-five years of experience in the book publishing industry. I have acquired, developed, and edited hundreds of books (all nonfiction), and I am a former editor of Writer's Market. I'm also a writer myself, with books published by Penguin, Simon & Schuster, and Thomson. I enjoy the challenge of helping authors organize their ideas and their materials. I understand the mechanics of good writing, and I am passionate about matters of accuracy, clarity, concision, logic, and tone.
I provide writing and editing services to a wide variety of businesses. My work encompasses everything from web copy and product packaging to books, manuals, and book-jacket copy.
I also write books, feature articles, and essays. My most recent book, Stylized: A Slightly Obsessive History of Strunk and White's The Elements of Style, was published by Simon and Schuster in October 2009.
I oversaw publication of books about music technology, the recording arts, and the music business. I established publishing plans, acquired and edited books myself, and managed freelance editors and authors. I was responsible for the publication of some thirty books each year. I was also very much involved in marketing and promotion efforts for all my titles.
Some highlights from my ten years with Writer's Digest Books:
-Edited two editions of Songwriter's Market, an annual reference book for songwriters
-Acquired, developed, and edited nonfiction books about songwriting, music, the music business, photography, writing, weddings, retirement, and more.
-Edited three editions of Writer's Market, the company's flagship reference product for freelance writers. I was also the supervising editor of three more editions of Writer's Market, and I supervised the editing of Novel + Short Story Writer's Market, Songwriter's Market, and Guide to Literary Agents.
- Directed the design and production of F+W Publications' first CD-ROM, Writer's Market: the Electronic Edition. I oversaw annual improvements in the product and coordinated the work of designers, artists, editors, writers, and programming consultants.
-Throughout my career at F+W, I was involved with marketing (jacket copy, catalog copy, and other promotional text) for all of the products with which I was associated.
