Children's commissioning and development editor, fiction & non-fiction. Nearly 20 years publishing experience in-house and freelance.

Overview

With nearly 20 years experience in publishing, mainly editorial, but also marketing and book selling. My specialism is children's non-fiction and fiction, primary literacy, secondary English, and international curricula and assessment. Commercially minded with proven skills in commissioning and author recruitment - negotiating contracts, manuscript development and high levels of author care.

My skills range from detailed editing and art direction through to strategic brand-building and list management. Commissioned titles include: primary and lower secondary English courses for international curricula and assessment; early years literacy; trade non-fiction, activity books, picture-story, novelty, gift, and fiction in series and single titles. I've worked successfully with established, well-known authors as well as discovered and developed new talent. I strive to create excellent relationships with authors, illustrators, agents and publishing partners, building trust and loyalty.
I have worked in-house as development editor and commissioning editor and as children's publisher. My freelance services include publishing proposal writing, manuscript review and development, detailed copy editing as well as content writing.
