Louann Pope

Louann Pope - Editor

Mount Pleasant, SC, United States

A copyeditor polishing your writing but maintaining your voice, Louann takes a collaborative approach to improving your manuscript.

Overview

Louann's former career was in business, finance, and economics and included significant writing and editing . . . but she's always loved reading and language, so she obtained a specialized copyediting certification and launched a freelance copyediting career. Personally, her favorite genres to read are science fiction & fantasy and mystery. Because she loves language and has this eclectic combination of background and interests, she can copyedit a wide range of materials—everything from academic journal articles to company press releases to time-travel romances. Regardless of the type of writing, her goal is always to ensure that the manuscript reflects the best of the author's ability and unique voice. She sees the editing process as a collaboration in which she acts as a bridge between the author and the reader.

Depending on your needs, her services may include the following:
* Mechanics: spelling, punctuation, grammar, and awkward sentences
* Style & Formatting: hyphenation, capitalization, headings, numbers, citations, and style sheet
* Content & Structure: clarity for the reader in terms of word choice, sentence and paragraph structure, style, and voice
* References, Facts, Tables & Illustrations: internal consistency, clarity, and accuracy

She's well versed in the following style manuals:
* Chicago Manual of Style
* AP Style
* APA Style.

Here are some highlights from testimonials she has received:
* "I really like Louann's editing style—she explains why she is suggesting the correction. Based on her edits, I realized there are mistakes that I make repeatedly and can hopefully avoid in the future." —Leslie Bank, author of The Receptivity Project
* "I recently asked a wise Japanese executive what made him so successful. 'A strong backbone and a gentle heart,' he said. This is what Louann brings as an editor, helping to make good writing oh so much better. She has high standards and exceeds expectations." —Lois Kelly, author and Creative Strategist at Foghound
* "Louann has impressed me with her depth of knowledge in both the finance and editing fields. She learned our style guide quicker than most of our full-time employees do! . . . I can always count on her to turn in quality, error-free work quickly." —Claudia Avalos, Associate Editor at Streetwise Reports
* "Louann was a student of mine. . . . From the beginning, Louann showed a thorough understanding of the fundamentals of copyediting. . . . More than that, she demonstrated an expert ability to communicate effectively with authors and others on the editorial team. She showed excellent judgment in determining the type of editing any particular manuscript needed and consistently delivered excellent results. I would hire her myself!" —Jennifer Lawler, author, editor, and instructor
