Enthusiastic editor seeking literary short stories and novels, women's fiction, dystopian YA fiction, and narrative nonfiction

Overview

“Loan is not only an exceptional editor that I highly recommend for any project, she is a team player that goes above and beyond her role. On Contagious Optimism she led teams beyond expectation, she made suggestions that improved our publication, and she edited our manuscripts to perfection. I cannot thank her enough and I am certain that much of our success was due to Loan and our terrific teams.”

Loan Le is a freelance editor specializing in nonfiction and fiction projects. For nonfiction projects, her specialties include personal development essays and narrative memoirs. For fiction projects, she enjoys reading accessible literary fiction, cozy romance with strong female protagonists, and spine-chilling psychological thrillers. She possesses an editorial eye for plot and structure, characterization, and dialogue, and can suggest ways to make the writer’s prose sing. Her editorial letters are thorough and honest, giving and demanding.

Loan currently works as an editorial assistant at Simon & Schuster’s Atria Books and Keywords Press. Before that, she was with Gallery Books for two years and worked with the publisher on several bestselling books. She edits fiction for The Rag and Causeway Lit. She is the coordinator for Young to Publishing’s Writers group. She is also an MFA candidate in fiction writing at Fairfield University where she graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in English and with awards in journalism, creative nonfiction, and fiction. She has interned at Folio Literary Management, Contagious Optimism, The Record-Journal, and Simon & Schuster's Touchstone imprint.

Work experience

Fiction Editor

The Rag

March, 2015 – Present (almost 2 years)

The Rag is the home for literary guts and steel, an online magazine hell-bent for fiction with true grit and uncompromising action. I read submissions and edit contest winners for publication on our website.

Editorial Assistant

Simon & Schuster

May, 2014 – Present (over 2 years)

I assist two senior editors at Atria Books and Keywords Press with their diverse acquisitions list. A few of their New York Times bestselling authors include Connor Franta, Ricky Dillon, and Joey Graceffa, and fiction extraordinaires Paul Cleave and Renee Carlino.

Editorial Intern

Folio Literary Management

January, 2014 – May, 2014 (4 months)

I was an intern for two agents. My responsibilities included evaluating fiction and nonfiction queries; providing reader's reports on partial and full manuscripts; drafting editorial letters for authors and inquiries for potential clients; updating contracts and foreign rights database; and analyzing New York Times bestsellers lists to create a database of book publishing trends.

Editor

Contagious Optimism

May, 2013 – January, 2016 (over 2 years)

Contagious Optimism is a book series focusing on personal development. As an editor, I posted daily updates to Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin pages and performed substantive edits to solicited personal essays.
