Overview

I am freelance editor who covers all types of editing across any genre of fiction. I write crime novels in my spare time and have definitely developed a slight favoritism for the genres of crime/mystery/thriller. I can still take on any genre though, and can do so just as well as with my preferred genres.

I see editing as providing a watchful eye and a guiding hand, so based on this, I work closely with my clients and do all that I can to hone in on their individuality as writers. I always focus my edits around keeping the narrative voice that is already displayed and I even try to see what sorts of things we could put in place to build on a client's voice even further. I truly believe in making sure that the stories that are submitted to me hold their truth to the author, and that we as editors should really focus on making sure our clients are aware that the story they have created is just as important as any other work of fiction that has ever existed.

I fully understand proper structure and formatting, and can help my clients all the way through to the submissions process if that is their goal. I have extensive knowledge of words and their meanings, of where to choose simplicity over detail in terms of plot and pacing, and have certainly have the attention span to weed out those tricky plot-holes and timeline inconsistencies.

I also have a keen eye for spelling, punctuational and grammatical errors, and in the last ten traditionally published books I have read (which have been through a huge array of editing and formatting teams) I have managed to spot at lease one error of this sort in each of them.

I have worked with a variety of different authors from a variety of different genres, and this is what they had to say:

“TO ANYONE WHO HAS WRITTEN A NOVEL AS I HAVE, AND THEN SHELVED IT BECAUSE THEY WERE UNSURE OF WHAT TO DO WITH IT NEXT, THEN LOOK NO FURTHER THAN LIAM-J-CROSS WRITING&EDITING. LIAM HAS AN EXCELLENT APTITUDE AND WITH HIS SUPER ADVICE, HE WILL GUIDE YOU TOWARDS YOUR GOAL. YOU FEEL AS THOUGH YOU HAVE YOUR VERY OWN PERSONAL TUTOR THERE BY YOUR SIDE. SO I SAY AGAIN, CONTACT LIAM AND YOU WILL GAIN CONFIDENCE, AND HOPEFULLY, SUCCESS.” – MARGARET SCROWTHER

“AS A PUBLISHED AUTHOR, AND LEADER OF A LOCAL WRITER’S GROUP, I WAS EXCITED TO LEARN OF THE LIAM-J-CROSS EDITING SERVICE. AFTER RECEIVING MY FIRST EDITED STORY, I CAN THOROUGHLY RECOMMEND AND THANK LIAM FOR THE SPEED, ACCURACY, CLARITY AND REASONABLE CHARGES.” – MARY MILLS-MACLAREN

“I AM COMPLETELY PLEASED WITH THE SERVICES I HAVE RECEIVED FROM LIAM! HE REALLY OFFERED UP SOME OUTSTANDING ADVICE WHEN POINTING OUT PROBLEMS WITH CLARITY AND FLOW, AND EXPLAINED EVERYTHING IN A WAY THAT DIDN’T LEAVE ME FEELING INADEQUATE. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE SENSE OUT OF EVERY SUGGESTED EDIT, WHICH WILL ONLY SERVE TO STRENGTHEN FUTURE WRITING. ON TOP OF THAT, HIS PERSONABLE AND POSITIVE ATTITUDE MADE HIM A PLEASURE TO WORK WITH. I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND HIM!” – MELISSA GRAHAM
