Kaitlin Ciarmiello

Kaitlin Ciarmiello – Editor

Experienced nonfiction book editor (and librarian!) specializing in food and cookbooks, wellness, history, nature, pop culture, and travel.

Overview

I got my start in publishing as an editorial intern with Greenwood Publishing Group, a small reference book publisher, in 2004. It was there that I discovered the editorial process, from project conception to final manuscript preparations for production. Through the years, I climbed up the ranks to become an acquisitions editor, specializing in signing and editing books on world cultures and history geared toward high school level audiences. When Greenwood merged with ABC-CLIO in 2008, I stayed on board to become the Senior Acquisitions Editor for the Geography and World Cultures book program. My role was not limited to signing books; I also assisted many non-native English writers in line editing their manuscripts, provided editorial feedback on manuscripts and book proposals, wrote product copy, and helped authors to manage writers who contributed to larger works. Subject areas I covered included all aspects of geography and world cultures, including global food, women’s lives, sports and games, political issues, individual country studies, folklore, body culture, the environment, and history.

I love seeing new ideas and hearing new voices. When I work with authors to assess their proposals or manuscripts, I try to help them understand how their words can influence readers, asking questions about their work and offering new perspectives to ensure that their ideas are as clear and comprehensive as possible. Authors can trust that when I copyedit their work, I will not change the voice or meaning of the text. Whether you’re looking for help to put together a project proposal for a publisher, need someone to line edit your manuscript, or want a second set of eyes to make sure you’ve followed your publisher’s style guidelines, I can help with all of your editorial needs!

Testimonials:

During my career, I wrote, edited, co-authored, or co-edited 22 books. I worked with numerous editors as I prepared these manuscripts, and I can say unequivocally that Kaitlin is by far the best editor with whom I have worked. Kaitlin is very well organized, thoughtful, and meticulous. Her excellent suggestions helped me improve considerably the manuscripts that I had drafted. Kaitlin is highly professional, supportive, and patient, and she goes out of her way to help authors improve their work. She is truly an outstanding editor who will no doubt continue her superior work in the years ahead.

Kaitlin is a highly professional and topnotch editor. I have enjoyed working closely with her as my editor on five academic and scholarly books, published by Greenwood Press and ABC-CLIO, since 2005 to 2020. She is a joy and inspiration to work with, whom I always felt motivated and grateful to have as my editor. Kaitlin’s thoughtful advice and astute comments for improvement consistently resulted in excellent outcomes in accordance with the most rigorous and highest academic standards.
