As your professional copyeditor my job is to serve you--the author or publishing company--as well as your audience--the reader.
I do this by ensuring your text is clear, coherent, consistent, and correct. And in some cases, either upon approval or by request, I rewrite wordy sentences or fill in the missing gaps of information. I copyedit and write without altering the author's voice or adding errors into the document.
Here's a longer description of what I can do for you:
Mechanical Editing: focus on spelling, punctuation, capitalization, abbreviations, acronyms, numbers and numerals, quotations, headings, lists, charts, graphs, captions, end notes, and footnotes
Correlation: verify cross-references, check numbers on footnotes, end notes, tables, and illustrations, table of contents, and indexes
Language Editing: check grammar, usage, and diction
Content Editing: call to attention any inconsistencies or mistakes in the text, and work with authors on developing content
Permissions: remind the author about special permissions needed for publishing
Format: format text, headings, subheadings, quotes, end notes, footnotes, and citations
Proofreading: ensure all text is ready for publishing and is error free
I work with all copyediting style manuals, such as The Chicago Manual of Style, the AP Stylebook, APA, MLA, and more.
To bring your text to its best possible version, I'll ask you a few questions before we get started.
On a personal note, I'm a husband and father of two daughters. When not at my editing desk, I enjoy being outdoors with my family.
