Overview

I want to make your manuscript shine! I offer a friendly approach to editing and will provide detailed edits and explanations. I do this for two reasons: 1) So you can polish your manuscript, and 2) To ensure you understand why the edits were recommended and can apply them toward future writing. I'm here to help you shape up your writing, but also to help you learn.

I previously worked as the in-house editor for The Knight Agency's assisted self-publishing program, working with hybrid authors on their projects from start to finish. Need some coaching on how to self-publish in addition to your edits? Or, need some advice as you prepare to query agents? I've got you covered.

I mainly specialize in developmental edits and editorial assessments, taking earlier drafts and helping writers push their stories to the next level.

While the books I worked on during my time at The Knight Agency were mostly romance, my biggest love is young adult fiction, so I specialize in that. My favorite YA novels include STARFISH by Akemi Dawn Bowman, ONE OF US IS LYING by Karen McManus, and YOU'LL MISS ME WHEN I'M GONE by Rachel Lynn Solomon. I would love to work on manuscripts in a similar vein as these books.

As far as genres and subjects go, I love:

- Contemporary
- Mystery
- Coming of age
- Friendship and/or family stories
- Social issues
- Stories about death/losing someone
- Romantic relationships

However, I am not the best fit for fantasy.

I have edited for New York Times bestselling authors Shirley Jump and Deidre Knight, as well as bestselling author of the STUPID IN LOVE series, Cindy Miles. The first installment of this series, STUPID GIRL, hit the #3 spot on the Apple Books bestseller list, as reported by Publishers Weekly.

Why work with me? See the below testimonials!

"For me, completing a novel is a two-part journey. The first part consists of my work—the research, the constructing of the story, the plot, the characters. The second part comes once I’ve finished that draft and my editor steps in. There is nothing better in an author’s arsenal of weapons than an eagle-eyed, sharp-witted editor. I knew after working with Jamie on our first book together that she was a true gem. With not only a keen eye but an imaginative one as well, Jamie's professional guidance helped me whip a rough draft of a novel into a bestseller. I don’t know what I’d do without her!"

– Cindy Miles, bestselling author of STUPID GIRL

"Jamie’s keen eye and professional editing skills definitely helped elevate the quality of my Whispering Bay Romance series. Her patience and gentle persistence in getting the story right were exactly what I needed. Working with her is a complete joy!"

– Maria Geraci, author of the WHISPERING BAY ROMANCE series
