Editor with a passion for YA fiction. Current MFA candidate, Columbia Publishing Course alum, and former literary agency assistant.
I want to make your manuscript shine! I offer a friendly approach to editing and will provide detailed edits and explanations. I do this for two reasons: 1) So you can polish your manuscript, and 2) To ensure you understand why the edits were recommended and can apply them toward future writing. I’m here to help you shape up your writing, but also to help you learn.
I previously worked as the in-house editor for The Knight Agency’s assisted self-publishing program, working with hybrid authors on their projects from start to finish. Need some coaching on self-publishing best practices in addition to your edits? Or, need some advice as you prepare to query agents? I'm available to answer any questions you may have.
I mainly specialize in developmental edits and editorial assessments, taking earlier drafts and helping writers push their stories to the next level.
I edit young adult fiction and romance, as well as middle grade. YA is my bread and butter; some favorites include STARFISH by Akemi Dawn Bowman, ONE OF US IS LYING by Karen McManus, and YOU'LL MISS ME WHEN I'M GONE by Rachel Lynn Solomon. Some favorite romances include THE KISS QUOTIENT by Helen Hoang and EVVIE DRAKE STARTS OVER by Linda Holmes. Middle grades I adore include WHEN YOU REACH ME by Rebecca Stead, THE THING ABOUT JELLYFISH by Ali Benjamin, and WONDER by R. J. Palacio. I would love to work on manuscripts in a similar vein as these books.
As far as genres and subjects go, I love:
- Contemporary
- Mystery
- Historical/time travel (for romance)
- Coming of age
- Friendship and/or family stories
- Social issues
- Stories about death/losing someone
- Romantic relationships
However, I am not the best fit for fantasy.
In addition to developmental edits, copyedits, and editorial assessments, I offer partial manuscript critiques for authors who want feedback, but aren't quite ready to take the plunge on a full edit. I also offer optional add-ons for authors who are planning to self-publish:
Tier 1: Two rounds of edits (one developmental, one copyedit) on your book’s cover copy/description.
Tier 2: Three rounds of edits (two developmental, one copyedit) on your book’s cover copy/description, PLUS assistance with choosing keywords/categories for your book’s listing.
Each tier is a flat rate added to the price of the edit, and it's best if these add-ons are completed within one (1) year of the manuscript critique. During our initial conversations, let me know if you would be interested in either of these options!
I'm currently earning my MFA in Writing for Children & Young Adults at Vermont College of Fine Arts. I also hold a certificate in publishing from the Columbia Publishing Course.
Are you ready to prepare your novel for its next steps? Contact me today and let's get started!
I offer a variety of editorial services to meet your needs, ranging from manuscript evaluations to more in-depth content editing. I'm also a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association, ACES: The Society for Editing, and AWP.
I edited reports written by incognito evaluators of luxury hotels, restaurants, and spas.
I helped oversee the literary agency's assisted self-publishing program, TKA Distribution. I edited fiction manuscripts, assisted with formatting and marketing the books, and uploaded the finished products to online retailers.
