Kevin Hughes

Kevin Hughes – Editor

An experienced copy-editor and proofreader of academic books and journals. I believe that having a good relationship with authors is vital.

Overview

Copy-editor/proofreader

I have experience working on academic books and journals, primarily in social sciences and humanities, for publishers such as Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press and Routledge. Also, I have worked on life sciences titles, mainly proofreading in that genre. I was employed by John Wiley and Sons for 15 years before becoming a freelancer, which I have been doing for seven years. I have also had two short biographies published (one on Thomas Cromwell and one on Frida Kahlo).

Interacting with authors is the most enjoyable part of the job (in most cases, anyway). I never forget that it is the author's book rather than mine: my role is to guide and advise based on my knowledge and experience, not to interfere without good reason. Having seen things at first hand from an author's perspective, I know how to only be annoying in the right way.
