Hannah Bauman - Editor

Virginia, United States

Word nerd with a passion for all things fantasy and science fiction. Developmental, substantive, copy editing, and proofreading are my jam.

Overview

I'm an editor specializing in all genres of fantasy, science fiction, young adult fiction, and new adult fiction. After a few years editing law books and government proposals, I decided to go into business for myself and do what I love - creative writing and editing. I've been freelancing for over a year, providing a variety of editorial services for indie authors.

Working to self publish your book? Want feedback before submitting to agents and editors? Trying to revise after beta reads, critiques, and a few rejection letters? I can help. I truly enjoy helping authors polish their work and improve their craft. Let's make something awesome!

Editor

Self-employed
May, 2016 – Present (over 1 year)

I'm a freelance editor for fiction, non-fiction, and blogs. I've edited everything from science fiction to high fantasy to travel blogs to self-help books. While I can (and will) edit anything, sci-fi and fantasy are the genres closest to my heart.

Technical Editor

Ace Info Solutions, Inc.
August, 2015 – November, 2016 (over 1 year)

As an editor, one of my main responsibilities was providing technical editing for the proposal team. This included, but was not limited to, checking grammar, punctuation, syntax, diction, mapping to federal proposal requirements, and ensuring consistency in writing styles. Additionally, I supported the proposal team, including coordinating meetings, reviewing graphics, and taking detailed notes at reviews.

Editor

Municode
July, 2014 – August, 2015 (about 1 year)

As an editor at Municode, I was responsible for incorporating ordinances from local governments into existing code books. This included reviewing ordinances for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and hierarchy, as well as preparing and coding the new laws for publication.

Editor and Proofreader

Florida State Senate
January, 2014 – June, 2014 (5 months)

As an editor and proofreader at Florida Senate, I was responsible for preliminary editing of bill drafts including, but not limited to, bills, resolutions, proclamations, and amendments. Bills that I edited covered a variety of topics and this type of editing requires an understanding of both legal and technical writing, as well extensive knowledge of grammar and style.

Additionally, I assisted with the compilation and editing of the Senate Journal, a collection of minutes and notes from each daily Senate session, as well as messages sent and received by the Senate.

Intern

Dods Parliamentary Communications
May, 2013 – August, 2013 (3 months)

My responsibilities included writing and editing content for online and e-mail publication, as well as assisting the team maintain the event website.

I also worked with the Dods publication Civil Service World. I interviewed non-executive directors, wrote profiles, assisted in researching topics for governmental conferences, and helped edit the Civil Service Companion.

Editorial Assistant at the Kudzu Review

Florida State University
January, 2013 – June, 2013 (5 months)

While working at the Kudzu Review, a publication at Florida State University, I worked with other students in assisting the poetry editor to select best poems from submissions for the final publication.
