My career in publishing began in 2004 as a marketing proofreader and copywriter at NAPA, but I achieved the bulk of my experience as a Project Editor at Wiley Publishing, known best for its "For Dummies" series. While there, I developed, edited, and managed over 20 published titles in the Consumer Technology field.
Since taking the full-time freelance plunge in 2014, I have edited and/or proofread everything from science fiction and college textbooks, to product manuals and digital advertising. I am most experienced with the CMOS, AP, and MLA style guides.
As a full-time freelancer, I have edited and/or proofread everything from fiction and textbooks, to product manuals and website content. Most of my freelance work has been for content creation firms, but I've also copy edited and/or proofread fiction for authors preparing to self-publish or submit their work to agents. Predominant genres have been romance/erotica, science fiction, and horror.
In addition to project management (including hiring and managing freelance staff), I was also responsible for development editing and formatting manuscripts throughout the project. I also proofread and cleaned up all manuscripts after the final author review/correction process, and finalized all files at prepress.
As a Project Editor on the Consumer Technology team, I worked predominantly on technology, software, and photography titles. I've included a few of the books I edited for Wiley here in my portfolio. For a complete list, see the the Accomplishments section on my LinkedIn profile.
I started as the marketing proofreader for NAPA's auto parts catalogs and went on to become the marketing copywriter. I also edited layout and often reformatted pages after editing text to fill any dead space.
