Erin Mulligan

Erin Mulligan – Editor

I have been a science and healthcare development editor for 20 years and have worked with hundreds of authors and edited over 70 titles.

Overview

I've been a development editor for over 20 years and in publishing for over 30. During my years in publishing I have worked in small houses, large conglomerates, and even co-owned a company. I have worked at Mayfield, Addison Wesley, Benjamin Cummings, and Pearson, and edited content for Macmillan, McGraw, Norton, and Oxford. I have been a sales rep, an acquisitions editor, and an executive editor. At one point, I managed a team of 20 that included marketing folks, a production team, and other editors. Because I have worked in all areas of the profession, I have a unique sense of what makes a book successful and how to edit a title to meet market needs successfully.

I develop very close relationship with my authors' writing, and in my editing, I do my best to help authors understand how readers will interact with their writing. I know how to work with an author to make a manuscript about any topic–even the most intimidating–compelling, understandable, and readable. My goal is to help authors find their voices and speak clearly to readers.

What authors have to say about working with me:

"This is amazing and so thorough. I appreciate the new voice the edit brings to the work and the attention to making it reader-friendly and easier to understand."

"It has been an honor and a great privilege to work with development editor Erin M. Thank you, Erin, for bringing your talents, insight, expertise, and humor to the project ."

" I am also in a continual state of awe and gratitude to Erin M., my development editor and friend. Thanks, Erin, for all your outstanding help and advice."

"The authors wish to express our deep appreciation and admiration to development editor Erin M., in particular, who provided excellent editing and worked very closely with us on the manuscript and format."

Erin, You did such a beautiful job recognizing this book's vision and keeping it alive. Thank you for your talent, heart, and energy."
