An adorable book with a powerful message for children that money and material possessions is not happiness
This book was created to show readers what is essential in life. Life is about honesty, family, bravery, empathy, respect, and purpose.
The story is about a curious boy named Andy, who wishes to see himself in the future. Surprisingly, his wish comes true. Will he like what he sees?
A book about values, morals, and the purpose of living life.
"Who Would You Rather Be?" delivers a powerful message that happiness cannot simply be bought with money and material objects. Happiness comes from within. It comes from being with our loved ones and caring for one's community.
Andres, a little boy, is asked by his teacher what he wants to be when he grows up. While thinking about the question, he meets his future selves and discusses what they have done to be happy. This helps him arrive at the answer he is looking for.
He realizes that he should be asking "who" he wants to be when he grows up, and not "what."
It's a meaningful, engaging story told through bright and attractive, full-page illustrations. A mix of fonts and colors are used to good effect, emphasizing the main message that it's not how much money you make that will determine how happy you will be when you grow up.
I loved the sci-fi/time travel angle to the story--I haven't seen it often in children's picture books.
I appreciate how difficult topics like fulfilment, life satisfaction, career trajectory, and happiness have been tackled in a language that children will understand. I can see myself reading the story to my child and fielding his innumerable questions.
One of the better children's books that attempts to teach wholesome values!
My reviews are for readers. I attempt to write balanced reviews to help people decide if they'd like to pick up the book. I also post reviews to Amazon India, Goodreads, and my blog: www.satabdimukherjee.wordpress.com.
