From the Author

I Hope You Enjoy Wailing Tempest!

I set aside two projects to create
Wailing Tempest during 2020 . I found this a fun opportunity to escape such a trying year, and slipped into these pages to hide for a bit and recover a bit of myself. I found this a vacation of sorts as an author, and I hope it will be the same for you.

I wrote this manuscript in a mere seven weeks, and brought it to you in a total of ten. Inside you will find action, gasps, and laughter. You will see, taste, and smell a new world that could remind you of our own. Most importantly, you have a place to escape just as I did.

I picked this book up on a whim, thinking it looked like a fun read, and I'm glad I did. I fell in love with Alistaria and Torian immediately, and Piotr and Boyd soon after. I laughed out loud at the cart scene. I found the Sith and Puca really eerie, and I hope to see more of them in future books. The characters were all very memorable, the magic system in the story was truly unique and well done. It's been a long time since I read a story that held my attention like this one. I had trouble putting it down, I just had to find out what was really going on between the different realms, and the character's true identities. Every time I thought I had it figured out, I soon found I was wrong. The intrigue behind the character's identities was on a Shakespearian level. The plot, backstory, worldbuilding- everything was very rich and complex. The ending had both surprising and poignant elements, I admit I cried at a particular scene but I don't want to give any spoilers. It had a good message, too, for the readers. I really appreciated the true relationship between the Fainne and Feane. Also, about Boyd- I had suspected something, but I didn't expect that!

This is some good fantasy. It's a plot-focused and quickly-paced story that begins with action and rarely lets up. The tension in the story is strong, and made even more potent by the lore vignettes at the beginning of each chapter. The lore itself is reminiscent of celtic mythology (fittingly, given the fae), and very evocative of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. I really loved the interwoven nature of the personal past of the characters' and the racial past of the species of the world. There's a very tangible "History is Written by the Winners" element to this story, one that is addressed throughout the story as the characters come to terms with the truth of their history and heritage, and in doing so they must confront the hatred that they were raised with. There were some minor typos throughout the novel and the pacing was a little too quick for me at times, but these are nitpicks: the story is enjoyable and I recommend it to all fantasy-lovers.

Tales like these can be hit and miss, so it's hard for me sometimes to get into them for a while. It often takes the first chapter and even then sometimes a bit longer and that was true for this one.
That's not to say that I didn't enjoy it or that it's not a good book, but more that it starts a little slowly and that there a lot of names and competing factions that caused me to concentrate a bit too much.
That said it's a very fun read and a pretty original story which I always find refreshing.
The book is pretty well written and formatted and I dint see many mistakes which was also nice. The story is full of complexities that when you get into it are welcome and I could see myself reading more on this series and from the author. Good stuff.

Having read Phillip’s other 3 books, I was curious and a bit apprentice to dive headfirst into a new series from him. I mean, shifting from pirates to fae? Hmm...

Well, he pulled it off. The story is just as engaging as his previous work & I look forward to finishing the journey with these new characters. It’s difficult to judge a series from the first book alone, but I stand that if you love complex & thoughtful writing with a touch (okay a lot) of magic, you’ll thoroughly enjoy Tempest.

Like with his other books, the deep messages portrayed invoke critical thought & deserve to be pondered. Young adults to old adults can appreciate the twists & subtly.

I look forward to reading more. (:

You are immediately transported to another time and world in this story. The author drops you into the middle of the action - and it is an action-packed start, indeed! I enjoyed how the different creatures from Irish folklore and fairy tales were brought together in this story and how their complex history was explored throughout the book. The depth and diversity of characters and rich backstory are among the many strengths of this book. Right away, you get a feel for their very different personalities and sense that a lot has already happened between them without a long exposition. Overall a fun and mystical read.

While this book was intriguing, it was also confusing to me. I guess I don't like to concentrate so hard while I read. The two realms--Fainne and Faene--had me confused for the first fifty pages. Also, the many strange and hard to pronounce names bumped me. I did, however, appreciate the moral of the story, which is quite applicable today.

This was a beautiful fun twist on fairy tales. Another strong female lead character by T.B. Phillips he really weaves a great storyline with action and drama. Enjoyed the interaction between realms and the differences it brought. Amazed at how well the characters really each had their own personality and storyline. Love how the author adds humor to some scenes at just the right or wrong moment changing thr mood. Wonderful read and definitely can not wait for more from this series. Definitely was ready for more and can't wait for thr second book.. Hopefully we can all have a little bit of "Lucky" in our lives
