The story's storyline proves that, with practice, you can be whatever you want to be, even a mouse who wants to become a ballerina.
Mimette is a mouse of culture. Born in the iconic Metropolitan Opera House in New York City, she learned to love opera and ballet. In fact, her love of ballet has grown so much that she starts studying with professional ballerinas.
When Mimette transforms into a beautiful dancer, her ability to dance unfortunately does not stop the other performers’ fearful reactions when they see her unexpectedly on stage.
After many mishaps during live performances, the management of the opera house decides that something must be done and they send for Hobart, the most famous mouse catcher in the world.
Will Mimette find a way to escape his net and continue her ballet career?
The Tale of the Cat and the Ballet Mouse is a timeless story of how a love of dance and perseverance can overcome adversity and allow dreams to come true.
Mimette's family, originally from France, sailed to America and settled in a department store in New York City. Mimette's parents loved their new, bustling home except during Christmas. The noise from shoppers wasn't ideal for a growing family, so they set out to find new living arrangements. During one fierce rainstorm, fate brought them to the Metropolitan Opera House. Mimette was born here, and the plethora of activity entertained this tiny mouse. There were musicians and beautiful costumes. People were singing, dancing on their toes. Mimette was in constant awe, and I couldn't fault the tiny mouse.Â
Mimette loved watching the ballerinas dance across the stage. She wanted to dress like them, dance like them. As the dancers trained, Mimette mimicked their motions. The illustration of Mimette in her little white leotard and tutu, doing a pirouette, was adorable.Â
While Mimette loved being around the dance group, they weren't so keen on being around her. Mimette's presence interrupted their shows, and management was displeased. When you have a mouse problem, there are options to rid yourself of the pesky rodents. Metropolitan Opera House chose a cat! Children will laugh when they see Hobart, the kitty. He dressed in a suit fashioned with many medals. He also wore a bowtie and monocle.Â
If your child is interested in ballet, read The Tale of the Cat and the Ballet Mouse by Anne Krohley. It has action sequences that reminded me of Tom and Jerry. Amazon lists The Tale of the Cat and the Ballet Mouse for children 4-7. That is a good assessment. Some words might need defining, but, for the most part, the word choices were suitable for the author's recommended age group.
Every parent will love the story's storyline, proving that, with practice, you can be whatever you want to be, even a mouse who wants to become a ballerina.Â

I've been constructing reviews for over a decade and don't plan on stopping anytime soon. Most of the reviews will be featured on my blog (Kam's Place), Pinterest, Instagram, BlueSky, and Goodreads. Don't forget to tip your waitress! :D
