"The Slippery Spinosaurus Splat (James Bone Graphic Novel #6)" had action, suspense, humor, and educated the reader as it entertained them.
The largest land dwelling predator of all time, that’s just as at home in the water? Sounds like the last dino that James and his friends would want to come into contact with, but these intrepid young explorers are off to Egypt in search of the prodigious, prehistoric predator: Spinosaurus!
As always, this adventure will leave you on the edge of your seat wondering if James, Shovel, Pick, and Diggy will find Spinosaurus in time to make it back for “Show and Tell.”
… Or could this be the one where their mission is finally thwarted by some dastardly, ‘boneheaded’ villain. Will someone beat our heroes to the best fossil finds? Find out – one page at a time.

Interest Level: Ages 5-13
Do you have dino fans in your home? Do you have children (ages 5-13) who love graphic novels? If you answered yes to either of these questions, you should buy The Slippery Spinosaurus Splat (James Bone Graphic Novel #6) by Carole Marsh.
In this installment, James and his friends are off to Egypt searching for the prodigious, prehistoric predator —spinosaurus! If you've watched Jurassic Park 3, you are already familiar with the larger-than-life apex predator.
When the crew made their grand entrance into Egypt, the author defined the words pyramid and sphinx at the bottom of the page. I'd loved to see a pyramid in person; I bet pictured don't do them justice. The heat is not something I'm looking forward to, though.
Before the explorers encounter a spinosaurus, readers will read a fact sheet on the "spiny lizard." Kids will learn valuable information about the enormous meat-eater: an extra toe on the back of its leg and snout like a crocodile.
As the adventure continues, the author weaves Egyptian historical facts into the storyline. For example, they answer how the pyramids were built. Also, it's a crime to steal artifacts that belong to the Egyptian people. Readers will learn the importance of Canopic jars.
Check out the "Did you know?" sections because you might learn something new. I did!
Depending on the reader's age, they might not be familiar with felucca, cataracts, hieroglyphs, and sarcophagi. This would be a great time to add them to their mental dictionary.
If you want to expand the educational aspect of the story, incorporate geography and take a field trip to a local museum.
As with the other books in the series, The Slippery Spinosaurus Splat (James Bone Graphic Novel #6) had action, suspense, humor, and educated the reader as it entertained them. The graphics were superb too!
I've been constructing reviews for over a decade and don't plan on stopping anytime soon. Most of the reviews will be featured on my blog (Kam's Place), Pinterest, Instagram, BlueSky, and Goodreads. Don't forget to tip your waitress! :D
