Sassy Snapper loved solving underwater mysteries, and today her help is needed more than ever. Curious Clam's most prized possession, a pearl, has gone missing, and without it, she's "gloomy." Sassy Snapper couldn't allow this mystery to go unsolved and was the right fish to locate the lost item; she was brave, clever, and determined to solve any puzzle that came her way. As you might guess, the story has a happy outcome, but the journey to it was filled with excitement, wonder, stunning illustrations, and spectacular storytelling. Readers will be awestruck by the vibrant aquatic scenes. I loved how each underwater character had their own unique personality and style. The octopus's deep mauve sea hair was gloriously wavy and beautifully shaded. It was a lovely contrast to his yellow skin. I loved the tiny chip in its upper teeth, too. Sassy's pigtails were also adorable!
As Sassy hunts for the lost pearl, the adventure takes her to the bottom of "The Deep," the area where fish light the way. In the pit, Sassy questions one illuminating fish called Antsy Anglerfish, who explains how they got their name and the sad reason behind their light. Antsy didn't know where the pearl was, but he could help in other ways. In their search, the detective duo became a trio, where the newest helper's name matched his expression a tee. This trio relied on one another and had each other's back 100%, and in the end, they found more than a lost pearl; they found friendships.
The Sassy Snapper is a stunningly designed children's book that teaches kids the value of teamwork, the importance of being kind, and being there for your friends when they need you the most. I recommend the story for kids 10 years and younger. Kids of all ages will love the artwork, and the story can span many reading levels.
