Once again, the heroes are on a mission to save the world from the Demon King of Confusion. The villain vows not to be bested again by the Monkey King and his allies. Will the Demon King prevail victoriously? I think you know the answer to that question. However, we meet the most interesting characters in the battle of good versus evil.Â
There were only a handful of illustrations in The Monkey King Saves the World by Jeffrey Frisone, which was a bit of a letdown. If any character deserved to be immortalized in an epic drawing, it had to be Black Wind Demon. He was more bear than man, with long fangs and black wings and engulfed in smoke during manifestation and departure from a scene. Maybe Ayan Saha (Illustrator) will add a photo of the Black Wind Demon in future works.Â
This story does speak of events that occurred in previous stories, but not in detail. Examples: saving the Queen of the Dream from the Nightmare, taking the scrolls in Asia, and Demon King losing in Antarctica. If you haven't read the last seven books in the series, you should consider doing so. I was a bit lost since I had not read all seven.Â
The Monkey King Saves the World by Jeffrey Frisone has unique characters with special abilities and powers. While powers and magic are helpful in the battle, I liked Tripitaka's martial arts skills. I've always wanted to learn some form of martial arts ever since I watched Bruce Lee fight. Plus, I am a massive fan of the Karate Kid / Cobra Kai franchise.
If I could change anything, I would add more images of characters and battle scenes. This would connect the reader more to the story.Â
