Magic Card written by Alina Mitrut quickly grabbed my interest through its whimsical illustrations and mysterious plot. I feel that children would also be immediately attracted to its magical story, especially young girls who can relate to Aurora and Bianca, the two girls who are best friends.
I can’t help but remember my own childhood. The narration of the story brings you back to those days when you were also young and the world is full of wonders. The Christmas setting of the story further adds to this festive and exciting mood. Who wouldn’t look forward to a magical gift in a season where everything seems possible, especially when you’re a child?
I loved that though the story revolved around the two girls, it also involved their families. It adds a certain warmth to the heart when reading a book that feels so close to home.
The illustrations of the book also have a unique vibe that allows the reader to visualize the story more. After all, isn’t a story supposed to transport its readers to another place and time? The drawings presented allow its readers to see Aurora’s world and to imagine being there, witnessing the magic of it all.
This is a good book to be used as a bedtime story for children. Not only would they be drawn to the story. They would also be given the chance to think about their own wishes and desires. What would they wish for if they also had a magic card? Are they willing to share this card with someone else? How would they feel if their wishes come true?
These can all be used as precious moments of bonding between parents and children. It can be a wonderful time to know the young ones more and also to teach them valuable lessons in life.
One’s desire need not stop with material things. But they can be the means to show the real magic we share through our bonds of generosity and love.
