Lemons have been used for so many things, both in and out of the kitchen. They have a reputation such as disinfecting, Thanks to the citric acid, and as an aid to help fight feeling tired and weak all the time, feeling irritable and sad all the time, joint, muscle, or leg pain and so much more due to the vitamin C content. But lemons have a lot more health benefits.
From their heart and cardiovascular benefits to their ability to fight a surprising range of diseases, such as cancer, anemia, heart disease, and obesity, Lemons has something to offer everyone regardless of their age, sex or general health. Let's start with Cardiovascular Health.
The Cardiovascular benefits of citric flavonoids, which are found in lemons are still under research, but because this fruit has a major source of vitamin C, eating them along with other fruits and vegetables high in vitamin C could help strengthen cardiovascular health which could reduce the risk of having a stroke and heart disease. There are a few more plant compounds found in lemon, such as fiber, hesperidin, and diosmas. Also, lemons have beneficial effects on the heart by lowering the risk that can cause heart disease.
Next it also helps in digestion, the citric acid inside of lemons may be significant aid in the digestion of food because it can be helpful supplementing natural stomach acid levels. Some of these levels can decline in elderly individuals making lemons healthy choice in tea or to use as a flavor water between meals.
Studies al so suggest that lemons possess certain weight control qualities, they may be also able to offer better digestive system during mealtimes.
Okay now let's look at Weight Control.
Lemons have been promoted as a weight loss fruit, and there are many reasons or theories about their ability to fight calories. If you add just a squirt of lemon it can give vegetables a more tasteful experience. one of the most popular beliefs said that drinking hot water with lemon juice can help with weight loss. But this doesn't have much evidence from research yet, but there is some evidence showing that certain polyphenols in lemons can help reduce the fat tissue in the body.
Anemia
There are some common disorders that can affect many people in different ways. Major sources of this can be a lack of iron in the diet or iron deficiency which could have resulting affects in the form of anemia which is insufficient iron absorption from all the food we eat.
Lemons along are known to be very low in iron, but its doe's help in fighting anemia, according to some research, their ability to help absorb more of the iron found in the plant and animal foods we eat on a daily basis.
Hydration
Here is a very important fact and I can relate to this, most people I know and in general don't like drinking plain water to stay hydrated. The plain taste can be disturbing and unpleasant for most people including myself which can result ignoring our daily recommended water intake. Lemon water is a great solution for this problem, if you don't like the tart taste just add a teaspoon of sugar or 1 or 2 packs of sweet & low is what I do. I drink more water now than I ever had in my entire life.
Vitamin C
Drinking water with lemon juice and pulp can help you stayed hydrated, because of its content, it gives off some essential nutrients, especially vitamin C and potassium. Lemons have that slight tart flavor but is low in sugar. The most obvious thing about consuming lemons is the richness source of vitamin C. the juice from just half a single lemon contains roughly a sixth of the recommended daily vitamin C dosage, and consuming a single whole lemon with the pulp offers at least half of the recommend daily average of vitamin C intake. Lemons are one of the easiest and juiciest ways to consume this essential vitamin each day. So, during the summer days or when you are sweating a lot fix you a jug of lemon juice to quench your thirst and stay hydrated.
Now let's look at the other Big C everyone hates.
Cancer
Did you know that the cancer-fighting abilities of many foods and fruits, and vegetables does not get the proper reward they deserve from drinking or eating them, on media platforms and magazines. When it comes to lemons, there are also some studies and research that found lemons have the ability to fight certain forms of cancer.
Studes show that the citric acid power of lemons has help to reduce the overall risk of developing certain pancreatic and stomach cancers later in life as we get older. However, more research is needed to confirm these benefits so it can be proven, hopefully very soon.
Kidney Stones
Lemons can also help in preventing painful, debilitating kidney stones from forming. The citric acid found in the pulp and juice of lemons, and all the other fruits just like it, works in a lot of ways. First, it reduces the creation of mineral formation by urinating more often than usual. Secondly, it causes an increase in the urinary pH, making the kidneys less acceptable for these stones to develop, even as little as a half cup of lemon juice a day might be enough. Last but not least.
Lemon Peels Are Healthy Too
The peels and rinds of lemons also have beneficial uses that shouldn't be ignored. Beside from being used as a flavoring enhancement for garnish in desserts and drinks also has high vitamin C concentrations in it. The skin of lemons and other citrus fruits has shown the potential to fight off fungal agents that can cause skin infection and can sometimes be resistant to pharmaceutical medications for antifungal. So now here is the main Question.
Should Lemons Be Included in A Diet?
Unless an individual has a specific health condition or allergy that can make them highly sensitive to citric acid or acidic foods in some cases lemons are easily accessible and affordable and can be used in a diet in many ways, such as for salads, cooking, squeezed or raw lemon juice helps to enhance the taste of vegetables and counteracts the fishy taste of many fish. Lemons are also comely used to make hot or cold tea or just lemon aid.
CHAPTER 2 THE HEALING POWERS OF BLUBERRIES.
The Guide To Natural Healing is an overview of the research that Miller undertook whilst trying to combat his own health issues. It is structured into ten chapters, each based on a different fruit or vegetable that is shown to have mending properties. Within the chapters are detailed descriptions of the various ways that certain food items are said to be helpful concerning overall health. For example, carrots are mentioned to be good for oral hygiene, strawberries great for weight loss and garlic able to assist with allergies.
What’s great about this book is its no-nonsense approach to natural healing remedies. The informative points are structured clearly and there are just the right amount of facts which allow it to be easy to digest and not overwhelming to the reader.
What’s more, is that Miller provides interesting facts about fruits and vegetables that are unique and enticing. For example, lemons and blueberries are included in the chapters, and it is explained that the these fruits are known to taste incredible when put together. Intrigued by this, I immediately made a smoothie with these two ingredients in (lemon skin included) to test this out - it was delicious! This book clearly succeeds in making the reader want to eat a healthier straight away, and even more than that, provides inspiring ideas to add to your weekly diet. Â
In regards to the negative points, unfortunately there are various spelling errors within this book that leave it feeling unfinished. It would also be useful if there was more content in the introduction based on the authors own journey, perhaps an explanation as to how each fruit or vegetable has helped him personally. Further, the reader would benefit if Miller included case studies of other real life success stories regarding the implementation of certain foods in a diet. This is what knocked off two stars for me.
All in all, this guide is useful for what it’s trying to achieve. It doesn’t overload with useless information and is to the point so it doesn’t feel overwhelming. It will certainly spark your interest in adding more fruits and vegetables to your diet, which is exactly what Miller is trying to achieve. I would recommend The Guide To Natural Healing to anyone who needs a healthy road map to follow.
