In the town of Wagatailsville, there lived a 3-year-old black Labrador pup named Roscoe. Roscoe was like your typical dog; he loved exploring new places and meeting new people. To this energetic pup, everyone he met was a potential new friend. During a visit to the local dog park, Roscoe wasted no time introducing himself to the other dogs. He burst onto the scene, a whirlwind of fur. His tail wagged like a windshield wiper at full speed. His mouth moved at 50mph.Â
The other park canines didn't share in Roscoe's eagerness to play. As the other dogs retreated, Roscoe's excitement began to fizzle out, and self-doubt moved in. Cliques can happen in every age group, but you first become highly aware of them during your academic years, especially if you are a new student. Roscoe was the "new kid," eager to make friends but finding it challenging to enter the dogs' inner circle, the pack.Â
What I love about dogs is they can go from strangers to friends quicker than two shakes of a dog's tail. Unfortunately, it's not as easy for all humans to make friends with ease. However, Roscoe demonstrated the proper way to handle this situation. He didn't tuck his tail and hide in the corner of the park or exit it. He didn't let his insecurities hold him back, either. He summoned all his courage and tried making friends with the park dogs again. And his perseverance paid off!Â
The pack of dogs was adorable, especially sunglass-wearing Glenn, the golden retriever! I smiled at Roscoe's happy face, the one with his tongue down to his red collar. And Squeaky, aka furry ninja and speed demon, was cute and really gave the five dogs a run for their money. Did the canines catch Squeaky the squirrel? Read the story and find out!
Roscoe Goes to the Dog Park to Make Friends is a lovely story about a puppy's goal to make friends. The story illustrates that friend groups come in all shapes, colors, and sizes. Members may share some interests, like chasing ninja squirrels. But it's the subtle differences or interests that make new friendships so much fun! New friends equals new adventures!Â
If your child is about to start a new school, class, team, or club, share this funny and inspiring tale with your child. Help them summon their courage and never give up on making friends. Eventually, their perseverance will pay off, as it did with Roscoe. Amazon's recommended age is 3-8 years.Â
I've been constructing reviews for over a decade and don't plan on stopping anytime soon. Most of the reviews will be featured on my blog (Kam's Place), Pinterest, Instagram, BlueSky, and Goodreads. Don't forget to tip your waitress! :D
