In floating night rooms, in untethered cities, Kris Falcon's poems construct, line by line, an architecture of subjective states of singularly detailed, melancholy beauty.

Kudos to Kris Falcon for crafting such a beautifully dazzling poetry collection. Every poem breathes with its own rhythm of life and sparks such imagination and emotion. I felt so many emotions as I read through the poems, and found so many new favorite lines and poems. What sets this collection apart from others is the way the speaker and poet so artfully grasps the ability to touch a heart with the power of words.
Going into the content, there are about sixty poems, each one telling a different story but still weaving a cohesive narrative. From the very beginning, Falcon establishes a gritty tone with Before Some Mud. Lines such as “twisting a stem in my mouth” and “it is hazing up” give me such visceral vibes, and I can clearly imagine these images in my mind. “Mining one pain to chase another” is also a beautiful line from the second poem. Other memorable lines include “a flicker caught my thirst,” “I stroke a hollow belly,” “So starved for love I don black like a mourner.” These lines are so beautiful and artistic, like an artist painting a masterpiece or a songwriter making the best lyrics. I also love how the content is vulnerable and open to the public. Some of the topics could be triggering for the poet and yet they openly share their poems and feelings through the poems. I sense an undercurrent of bitterness, angerness, and pain when I read through the first half of the collection.
Falcon also has the skills to make the content compelling. Even if you don’t fully know what the speaker is talking about, you still stare and read on, absolutely captivated by each word and the way the poet writes poetry. Kris Falcon should be super proud of this wonderful collection that moves my heart in empathy and in awe of the skills and talents of the writer.
I would recommend this collection to poetry lovers of all kinds who want to read a real gem of a poetry collection.
