A dazzling collection of new Sherlock Holmes stories, which sees the detective solving fiendish crimes, many involving methods beloved of Victorian murderers, poison by arsenic or cyanide, or even by venomous arachnids and reptiles. The colourful cast of characters includes villains bent on vengeance, traitorous revolutionaries, unfaithful and greedy wives wishing to rid themselves of their husbands, unfaithful and greedy husbands ditto, gullible widows, charming seducers, and captivating con artists out to fleece the innocent. Whether at a circus at Ramsgate, a magic show at Londonâs Egyptian Hall, a deadly sĂ©ance on Hampstead Hill, a pagan Celtic ritual in rural Wales or over genteel teas in elegant mansions, our intrepid detective, assisted as always by the long-suffering Dr Watson, stays hot on the heels of the criminals.
Susan Knight, author of the critically acclaimed Mrs Hudson Investigates series of books, ably takes on the persona of Dr Watson in these nine adventures, while remaining ever faithful to the canon.

These stories first appeared in various volumes of The MX Book of New Sherlock Holmes Stories from 2019 to 2023, as follows: The Case of the Short-sighted Clown (Vol. XX), Abracadaver (Vol. XXII), A Simple Matter (Vol. XXIV), The Strange Case of the Pale Boy (Vol. XXVI), The Mystery of Maple Tree Lodge (Vol. XXX), Dr Watsonâs Dilemma (Vol. XXXI), The Strange Case of the Man from Edinburgh (Vol. XXXIII), The Mystery of the Murderous Ghost (Vol. XXXV), The Adventure of the Death Stalker (Vol. XXXVIII).

The editor, David Marcum, sometimes gives his writers a trigger or a task to fulfil. Thus, there may be a Christmas theme (as in my Mystery of Maple Tree Lodge). Or a development of one of the many âuntold casesâ mentioned in the original stories, those Dr Watson has not yet written up. We, his modern-day interpreters, must then take on the challenge (A Simple Matter).
In several of my stories, Dr Watson mentions his wife, Mary, whom he met during Holmesâs investigation into The Sign of Four. Sadly, according to Conan Doyle, she dies young, leaving Watson broken-hearted, but at least he is then able to move back into Baker Street, to continue helping Holmes with his investigations.
It has been both a privilege and fun to contribute to these collections, writing in the voice of Dr Watson and keeping as close as possible to the tone and style of the original canon. For me, Dr Watson has become as irresistible an alter ego as Mrs Hudson, the narrator of my novels.
Poor Dr. Watson. It's not easy being the ever faithful and true friend of Sherlock Holmes. Holmes is always ready for action. Even when they are out for an evening of entertainment and fun, crimes seem to just fall into their laps. What would your life be like if no matter where you went or what you did mysteries and crime followed you around? Come sleuthing with the uncomparable Sherlock Holmes in this anthological cornucopia of mysteries that would have anyone else totally mystified. In Sherlock Holmes Investigates: The Strange Case of the Pale Boy & Other Mysteries by MX Publishing.
Of the nine stories compiled one of the most intriguing mysteries (to me of course) is the one titled Abracadaver. Just the title alone is intellectually titillating (LOL). It takes place in the mystical realm known as 'England's Home of Mystery' the Egyptian Hall. The Egyptian Hall among other things provides shows of magic. In this spine tingling story interwoven in among the carved sphinxes and scarabs lurks a murderer. But their tricks are no match for Sherlock. Ever one step ahead of the schemes and artifice of a killer. He must act quickly or risk seeing an innocent soul framed and perhaps even hanged for the crime.
Sherlock Holmes Investigates: The Strange Case of the Pale Boy & Other Mysteries byMX Publishing is an agglomeration of New Sherlock Holmes stories worth collecting. In every story criminals learn the hard way that no matter how skilled the disguise or how cleverly thought out their ruse they cannot fool the great detective Sherlock Holmes.
Another really cool thing with these stories (that first appeared in different volumes of The MX Book of New Sherlock Holmes Stories from 2019 to 2023) is that all royalties from the sales of these anthologies go to support a school for special needs students at Undershaw, former home of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.Â
So, pull out your magnifying glasses, put on your thinking caps and accompany Holmes and Watson as they show would be criminals why "sooner or later everyone sits down to a banquet of consequences." -Robert Louis Stevenson.
