A lot of room for development and improvement in further issues.

From the moment Rage in the Shadows begins, the reader is thrust into the tumultuous reality of Angelica Garcia, who has been injected with a super serum meant to be a cure-all for every physical ailment. Despite being suddenly gifted with superpowers, Garcia finds out quickly that this same serum will kill her over time. After the kidnapping of her husband and her daughter, Garcia sets out to find an antidote to the serum and to return her family to safety.
I love a good comic book and was excited at the opportunity to snatch the first issue of Rage in the Shadows. While the premise of this comic is interesting, I was surprised by the predictability and lack of depth within the plot. The progression of the story feels like that of a Hollywood action movie, and I finished the comic feeling unsatisfied with what I had read. The pacing of the story is breakneck, and I wonder if a slower development would make time to add details and depth. The characters lacked variation, and I had trouble discerning Angelica from the other villainous jumpsuit-wearing woman. I think additional time spent on design would make characters more interesting and memorable but also help to set them apart from each other.
As a whole, I was disappointed by Rage in the Shadows. I expected more excitement and nuance than what was delivered. This saga could benefit from a more intricate plot, more unique characters, and possibly a change in pacing. Given that it is a series, however, I think there is a lot of room for development and improvement in further issues.
Rage in the Shadows is an action-based story of revenge, and it could appeal to a very wide audience. Based on the design of the female characters, I would guess an older audience would favor this comic as well. Someone who enjoys high-energy action movies with a science-fiction twist may enjoy this series.
