your lips are like honeyÂ
 Â
the pollen on a newly blossomed tulipÂ
swaying slightly in the breezeÂ
awaiting her first bumble bee of the springÂ
 Â
the bee lingeringÂ
just out of reach of the fresh pollenÂ
absorbing the warmth of the sunlightÂ
a burst of wind propelling her downwardÂ
away from her flowerÂ
 Â
eager to be taller than the flowers surrounding herÂ
the tulip strains her stemÂ
pulling the tops of her roots out of the fresh soilÂ
longing for a beeÂ
on the first day of springÂ
 Â
my lips pause in hesitation inches from yoursÂ
slightly openÂ
anticipating the first drop of honeyÂ
the tongue-tingling sweetnessÂ
the rush of sugar only your lips can giveÂ
A collection of poetry that aims to inspire people to speak up and open dialogues regarding various difficult topics such as childhood trauma, fear, cycles of hate, forgiveness of those not necessarily worth forgiving, abuse, rape, self-harm, suicidal tendencies, and anxiety.
Ms. Kole Kealey bravely shares her experiences. Her skillfully-written words demand to be heard, encouraging everyone whoâd been in a similar situation to demand being heard, and those who havenât to actually listen. Rather than letting the hardships she had to go through limit her or get in her way, she uses them to rise even higher as each word leaks her pain, hopefully relieving her of it, soothing those who are still in pain, and opening the eyes of those who arenât.
The poems deal with very heavy topics, but they are delivered to us in beautiful art. The poems blend together emotionally, heartbreakingly, powerfully, and elegantly. I have no doubt that those in pain while find at least one poem that speaks to them in here, and those who arenât wonât be able to help but marvel at the artistic delivery.
I recommend this book to anyone hurting who wants to feel less alone and know that it can get better.
