One of the most insightful children's books on the current global pandemic
A great book for children ages 4-8. My Family Are Ninjas: A One-Year-Old’s Perspective On Coronavirus Quarantine enters the world of a one-year-old boy and his perspective on the COVID-19 quarantine. He is convinced that his family’s life style (virtual school, Zoom meetings, wearing face masks and avoiding people) must mean they are all ninjas. Inspired by her own families experiences during the Coronavirus pandemic, Brianna wrote this new short story in hopes to provided young children a sense of inclusion during a time in our life’s that has been confusing, scary and isolated. Although we have all been in lockdown and separated from our friends and family, we can connect through the similar experiences we are all facing. Everyone around the world has been forced to alter their life. Going through this change together has proven just how important human connection is. With this book being inspired by true life events, children can reconnect knowing they weren’t going through the pandemic alone.
My Family Are Ninjas: A One-Year-Old’s Perspective On Coronavirus Quarantine is one of the most insightful children's books on the current global pandemic. It looks at how children may view the new measures that the general population was mandated to adopt. If you are in the market for a book that describes the pandemic with care and empathy, while injecting a bit of humor, then this is the book for you!
This short tale uses rhyming schemes to make it a fun and enjoyable read. This was a clever choice since it makes the book easy to read, despite the difficulty of the topic. However, there are a few blank verses. Nonetheless, it is a very enjoyable read.
The drawings are aesthetically pleasing and they add humor and entertainment to each page. I particularly liked the drawing of the parents in ninja suits as the baby looks on in wonder; it's hilarious!
In sum, I would recommend My Family Are Ninjas: A One-Year-Old’s Perspective On Coronavirus Quarantine to any young reader, it is interesting and funny. It is ideal for young readers who are interested in this topic. Additionally, it is supported by narration that is fun, and illustrations that are entertaining.
