This children's book from author Shanalee Sharboneau would be considered simple by some. However, it's the simplicity accompanied by the lush imagery that make this book worth checking out. My Daddy Loves Me: I'm His Little Boy centers on the little boy being loved by his father no matter what happens in life, good or bad. The words are short, sweet and to the point. By keeping the words simple and easy to understand for your young reader, the story gets its point across without excess jargon.
The illustrations, meanwhile, immediately popped when I opened this book. For a children's book, the illustrations can make or break a book just as much as the words themselves. The illustrator for this book is certainly talented and brought the emotions of the story to life. Bright colors, well-detailed people and animals and beautiful imagery will entertain your children and make story-time all the more enjoyable. The illustrations are works of art from start to finish!
Another thing the imagery does is expand your child's imagination. The safari, fighting pirates and looking for buried treasure, exploring the deep ocean and more take the reader to a whole new world where imagination comes alive! For me, I loved children's books where you could imagine anything and everything and this book does not disappoint in that department. The message at the beginning of the book with the mermaid image was also nice.
Lastly, the relationship between father and son shines bright which is the main point of the story. I think it's important to have a book where positive relationships between parents and children are highlighted and that, no matter what, the parent is there for the child through thick and thin. Being there and loving your child unconditionally is a lesson and message that shouldn't be overlooked and considered as valid as other major life lessons for your family.
Readers should also know this is the fourth book in the My Family Loves Me series. Parents should take the time to read the "About the Author" section at the end of the book too; it will make you tear up and appreciate the author's intent behind this and previous stories.
We need more love and positivity in this world, and hopefully this book will encourage sons that they are, indeed, loved by their fathers. Again, check out the other books in this series too.
I am an avid reader and enjoy writing of any kind. I have been a blogger for 4 years, writing book reviews since 2016 and reviewing books for Hallmark Publishing since 2018. Books and words inspire me and I want to share those thoughts and stories with others.
